Hello guys,
I'm asking myself a question. Why is there more suicide attempts from women but more real suicide from men ?
Is it a question of researching of attention, then why do men research less attention with suicide attempts ? Or maybe men care less about the suffering so they have an higher success with killing themself ?
I don't really know how to understand those numbers, any ideas ?

Perhaps even the numbers are wrong, and in fact the thing is that men are less often discovered when they fail their attempts.
This would throw a wrench in any conclusion you may draw of this numbers.

An idea put forth by some is that women tend to use methods that are more likely to fail than those typically chosen by men. Another possibility is that the suicide of women are more often ruled as "accidents" or similar rather than suicides, say in the case of OD, giving the appearance of men ending their lives to a larger extent. I'm sure there are plenty of other possible explanations as well.

Men use guns in suicide more often than women do, and suicide by gun has a very high rate of success.

It's really messed up how women have a higher threshold for pain. We want it more and can pull it off with less success.

One of the biggest sexual differences between men and women is risk taking. The most risk taking persons are pretty much all men.

Because society says men are inherently disposable unless they can provide something useful to others. Women are given value by default and more likely to get emotional support when they attempt.

Well that is just biology. If you have a tribe of a hundred men and a hundred women, and 99 of the men die, that one man can still impregnate all the women. Women are more important not because of society, but because of biology. It sucks for young men but It can't be helped.

Men are more violent and extreme than women on average. That's just how it is biologically speaking. Men kill more, men are more brutal, men are less afraid and take more extreme risks. They are basically less neurotic and less fearful than women. Just look at base jumping or climbing up buildings with no protection, it's almost all men. Again, I have to emphasize these are things that don't apply to ALL men, but it's a general tendency.

It is more difficult for women to commit extreme violence to other people but also to themselves, so they will pick "softer" methods that aren't too brutal or don't take too much courage. The soft methods are more likely to not kill you versus most brutal methods.

Women choose less lethal methods (overdosing and poisoning) usually because they think they'll hurt less, even though lethality doesn't correspond to pain at all. From women I've talked to, they usually just don't know that these methods rarely work.
