So, I know it's a random topic, but tonight I was watching a couple of YouTube videos about Japans "Suicide Forest", personally I've always felt drawn to it, it's a place I'd love to visit (is that weird?) I don't know about ending my life there tho, I think I'd rather be in my bedroom.. but what do you guys think? Has anyone been there before? Is it a place you'd like to go to or would you like to end your life there?
Sorry if this is a dumb post, I'm just so interested in this place..

Not weird at all, I also find it quite intriguing and mysterious in an ominous way. Not sure I'd go there without at least several spiritual protections though even tho I'm not a believer of anything. Too many brutal death in the same place, idk that makes me feel things.

Absolutely! Like I can just imagine an energy of pure heaviness and sorrow as soon as you get deep into the forest, even thinking about the feeling is strange, but I can definitely see the attraction of the place to chose it to be where you end your life, it's very beautiful surroundings

I wouldn't mind visiting the forest myself. I find most forests intriguing and peaceful. I also think Japan sounds like it would be a nice place to visit. Forests can be good for solitude.

Forests are so beautiful! Even the sounds, the feeling of peace and stillness, I see how alluring it all is, but yes Japans forest in particular has a draw on me for sure

There's this YouTube channel I like where this guy films himself going on long walks in various places in Japan. He's done a few in Aokigahara. If you'd like to watch them, I could send you the links. They're really peaceful.

To go to a place that would give you some comfort I would think to be akin to taking a natural sedative. If there is a place that hold beauty to you and would give you that peace I see no problems. I saw a documentary quite a few years ago regarding that forest, it wasn't a well balanced piece of work unfortunately, but you did see the park in its natural beauty.

Yes I totally agree. If that's the place you will feel at ease and peaceful and calm, then go for it. I feel most comfortable in my bedroom, I'd be too anxious about being caught to do it anywhere else. But yes, what a beautiful place to be! I can imagine how at one you would feel in such a place, if that makes sense!

Yes, the forest... That's always been my plan. Go deep into the forest and just die. Never to be found, or after I'm nothing but bones.

I always found the nature and ritual of a 'sky funeral' in Tibet to be a quite interesting way of being laid to rest.

I'm a bit obsessed with Aokigahara. It looks so beautiful. I've watched all the you tube stuff. It's definitely influenced my method. I'm going out Aokigahara style in dense forests near me. I love nature, it's the perfect place for me.

Yes.. when I first started seriously considering ctb this place became an obsession of mine. It's got everything I find fascinating in the world, beauty, melancholy, death, supernatural (yurei) and as well as all of that, the sense of ending life at the same place as so many others. I think it's also a big appeal that if you go in deep enough you won't be found... no worry of a person having to find your body.

I don't think that Japanese forest is supposed to have any spiritual meaning or effect. Many of the suicides there lived in the city and needed a tree to hang from, that was the only purpose of going there to do it.

If this was in the uk they'd have bulldozed it to stop this happening. I admire the Japanese for accepting this happens and leaving the place for this purpose.

Actually, the paranormal/supernatural aspect is a huge part of the appeal.

Before it was popular for suicides, there were myths that it was haunted by the sports of elderly people who were left there to die and not be a burden to their families. That never really happened, but people believed it did.

Now people believe the suicide spirits help lure people out. Supposedly compasses stop working after you go in deep enough. That's actually because of all the volcanic rock in the area (it's a massive forest located at the base of Mt Fuji), but rumors blame it on ghosts. It's also very dark, quiet, and there's not much wildlife. Those things add to the popularity, as well as it just plain being convenient.

Japan loves its ghosts.

When my pup passes I will take his and my other 3 furbabies ashes to Paha Sapa (where I lived for 15 years), disperse their ashes, then, hopefully, ctb watching the sun set behind Black Elk Peak.

I don't think it's just Japan. This year some of my family members tried to say they taken pictures of ghost when they went to some place. They showed me the picture, and I told them it was lens flares. I even proved it with science, and they got PO since I wouldn't feed into their BS.

I think the best way to explain it is from the following clip.

I can see the appeal for sure, maybe if I wasn't so afraid to leave the house alone it would be something I'd consider also! There is an amazing forest 15 mins from my home, it's beautiful with a river flowing thru it aswell

It's probably a popular spot for good reason. Dense trees, quiet scenery, and sheer size covering you in a sense of privacy. On top of all that you can rest assured that your body won't be found by loved ones, and has time to hopefully decompose into a less shocking state. I wish to find an equivalent forest here one day.

I have actually been to Aokigahara in 2016 on my second visit to Japan.
It is actually a really beautiful place to be at, but you do definitely feel a quite "unpleasant" or rather "painful" vibe coming from it.
If you ask me that is of course merely only because of your brain being aware of the history of the place.

I wandered around the place for a good hour or two, and did find some cute (to me) stuff there.
Like puppets, clothes old electric devices such as broken phones and so on.

You do indeed get a little disoriented inside, I am still not aware (due to my lack of research) if it's just the magnetic field of Aokigahara being in the Fuji zone, or if it is merely just the woods themselves, since they are a little confusing.
Consider that I have more or less grown up wandering woods myself, therefore I was a bit at a loss as to why.
(Again I think it was merely my brain playing with information)

To be fair it did feel very inviting and calm enough to commit right there.
If you are unlucky though; which I was; the peace won't last long.
Due to the media and I think even a movie (?) by now, you will definitely get a tourist here and there wandering around.
I left by the time a group of three tourists tried to start a conversation with me since I felt shitty with their cams pointed at me.
My peaceful walk was disturbed and I left.
It sadly (would have been a "fun" experience) wasn't all too hard to orientate my way out of there again, since they came from one of the entrance points and they felt obligated to point me out as i was leaving.... ._. I found that a little rude I guess?
I did end up being lost by exiting the Forest, because that was obviously not the spot I entered at.
Nothing mystical here so far really, after my portable router thingy got its connection back google maps lead me right to the next local train station ._.

Anyway, beautiful place, wish it wasn't that touristy by now.
Would recommend, and will definitely visit again if I am still alive for my next trip to Japan.

I am happy to provide more information (as far as I can recall them) if anyone has questions to Aokigahara~

You are so lucky to have spent time there that I'd amazing! It sounds wonderful! Except for the tourists, that's something I actually never factored in, how many people would be off the trails hoping to find something, kind of like the Logan Paul scenario if that makes sense.

Since you have visited, do you think it's a place you would ctb in yourself? If you were to make it to your next trip? I know you said the appeal was there until tourists appeared.
