Suicide by shotgun (or more generally, with firearms) is something that I think a lot of people know about, but many do not seriously consider as for lots of people obtaining a firearm is difficult or even sometimes impossible. However, if you can get one, I think it is perhaps one of the most lethal and quick methods available.
Years and years ago before I even know of SaSu and I was attempting to research suicide, most information online seemed to indicate that suicide by way of firearms was far more likely to be successful than any other method. This makes sense, as a properly placed shot could essentially destroy the brainstem. This would do many things, but most importantly stop breathing and destroy the brain's ability to communicate and control most of the body.
It seems to me like the main reason this type of suicide fails is due to poor shot placement. The three most common methods seem to be at the temple, under the chin, or in the mouth. Out of these, it seems that in the mouth is the most reliable. From what I can tell, people who attempt at the temple or under their chin are more likely to either blow off the front of their face or their jaw (respectively). However, a shot placed in the mouth seems much more difficult to misplace. The mouth itself would act almost as a guide, and if the shot was angled slightly upwards then the only thing separating the gun from the brainstem would be the palate and base of the skull, both of which are thin and would not impede a gunshot (you can view midsagittal cross-sections of the head online). If this method was carried out with a shotgun, the damage of a point-blank shot would likely be so severe that even minor issues with shot placement would likely not matter, and even if you did not immediately die you would still most likely lose consciousness and die of blood loss.
I live in a jurisdiction where obtaining firearms is not necessarily easy, but is definitely possible. Hunting and sports shooting are both somewhat popular, and it would not be suspicious at all to justify that you would be using the shotgun for skeet shooting or any other number of legitimate and legal uses. Once obtained, I would plan on driving out to some remote location and walking away from the road to further isolate myself. At this point the method would be carried out, and even if you did not die immediately it would be highly unlikely that anyone would find you for some time. I've also seen other users mention taking aspirin to complicate the body's clotting processes, or standing waist-deep in a body of water so that after you shoot yourself any chance of survival would be stomped out as you would drown while unconscious. This would also make it harder to find your body, which is certainly a benefit in my eyes.
I appreciate any feedback or advice on this method.
