Help successful partial hanging/locating the carotid artery

i'm trying to figure out how i can do this without failing, I've been browsing the form and i heard alot of stories about people who have tried partially hanging themselves and waking up on the floor after being passed out or just not blacking out at all,i'm preety sure the way i have it set up will provide enough pressure on my neck,i tested out my set up last night,i put the noose below my adam's apple and it felt like my head was exploding but not much else,do i just need to find where the carotid artery is and apply enough pressure or something else,im starting to question the effectiveness of this method aswell

Where is the carotid artery?
Before you start you have to know this. If you place your hand around
the middle of your neck, around your Adam's apple, with one thumb on
one side and all fingers on the other, you should feel a strong pulse
and heartbeat. If you close your hand now fairly firmly, you'll
probably make yourself pass out. It might be a good idea to try this
to make sure you've got the right spot.
