Propranolol is a beta blocker. It will block the rapid heartbeat induced by the effects of SN. It's not 100% necessary but will help on two counts - 1) the rapid heartbeart sensation is anxiety inducing for some people so will help avoid that and 2) by blocking the compensatory mechanisms of the body against SN, will increases its CTB effectiveness. This info is from the PP handbook.
I take metoprolol which is also a beta blocker. I've had both, propranolol or metoprolol, dependent on what my doctor prescribes / what pharmacist has in stock. I have ISTachycardia.
