• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

I'm studying for an important exam scheduled for Feb 27th and I'm really struggling to focus, procrastinating to the max and feeling quite anxious about it. I rescheduled this exam from December and I felt really bad that I wasn't prepared for it then and I don't want to be in the same boat again.

So it would be nice to have someone to check in with on here like an accountability partner. Never tried it before so just an idea and happy to do the same for others too.

You could do some studying for a half hour to an hour right now while you've got the time. Doesn't need to all be crammed at the last possible moment. I did that when I was in college and it only caused me a ton of stress, but when I started spacing it out and doing just little bits of studying then going back to entertainment activities I went from being a bad test taker to a pretty decent one.

Anki helped me some times in the past, really useful to memorize a lot of things in a sort time, just a bummer to set up. You could also make a some-what journal about you daily routine study, just to revise what you are doing an perhaps spot something that you shouldn't be doing.

Also, how this accountability partner would work? (just out of curiosity) You want someone to periodically discut your progress, shortcomings etc?

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm checking it out now! :)

I just really struggle with consistency and discipline and then I end up overwhelming myself. Yeah an accountability partner would work as you've said, just checking in on each other really!

It's the GMAT exam, it's an admission test for business schools.

Thank you, I need all the luck I can get! šŸ«‚

Was just wondering if your exam is any field that i would be of any use of, but no :( Look up body doubling, it's an adhd concept with helping you get things done like studying.

Pomodoro technique helps me a lot with work and studies.

I also find ai chatbots helpful when I get overwhelmed by work/deadlines. I use them to make structured plans of what I need to do by what time. What the deadline is, how many external factors there are.

I check in every morning and ask what is my to do list. Which has highest priority. I did this, we are on track for that. Update list. What do you think I should do today? Is there anything small in this list I can do now to get mentum going? And so on.

If you want I can send you a DM every day to ask if you did some studying. I don't know much about your subject matter, and I have my workload under control quite well, so I don't know if I could be considered being a study buddy, but I don't mind sending you a message every morning or evening to see if you are progressing with stuff.

I can't get myself to sit and study.

I think the meds are messing w/ my head.

Just how do I do that. I know the theory of what you are saying and I find that it makes sense and I would love to manage my life that way but whenever I try I fail. I just don't seem to know how. Worse: I feel stupid for even asking this question, at least in real life I do, because it seems everyone is doing that.

Part of it for me was how my classes were scheduled. I'd have all of my assignments due on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for the 5 classes I took. I was forced to prepare for classes each day rather than cram it all in a day. If this is possible for you to do, do it.

However, in a different semester, I took all of my classes on Mondays and Wednesdays for 10 hours per day because I hated commuting to school multiple days per week. During this time, I would give myself at least one day of the week off to do no classwork. The rest of the days I'd spend an hour on one class then give myself a reward, whether it was eating dinner or playing video games for 2 hours, then I'd return to the class work.

If I had an exam, I would specifically schedule a time to study for it. "On Saturday 4pm I'm going to study the exam, I'll do a quizlet and review my notes until dinner time. I'll eat dinner, then skim the chapter, and I'll be good for the day. If I don't feel confident for the exam, I'll continue to review on Sunday." If I didn't do this, my grades would be shit. In fact, they were. I would routinely get 50% scores on tests and quizzes because I'd never study since I was the "smart" kid who didn't need to study. Me getting shit grades finally got my ass in gear to do this and my scores improved to about 80+%.

I'm not sure how to tell you how to do it. I just sort of did it because I didn't like the results I was getting. I feel like I'm just regurgitating the theory that you already know but I hope that my experience helped a little bit. If there's something you need me to be more specific about I can explain it better. I think the best way to motivate yourself to take these steps is to have a form of accountability if you don't, and a reward for doing so even if it's self-imposed.
