I've heard that if one isn't sleeping or eating enough, it's pretty much impossible to climb out of negative thoughts.

Yup. The good ole downward spiral of depression. The snake eating it's own tail.
I can't eat or sleep because I'm depressed, I can't stop being depressed because I'm not eating or sleeping.
I lost 15 pounds in the past 6 weeks.

What's easier to fix? An appetite or sleep? I have chronic pain and cannot move but my flight or fight delusions are coming in, making me think that excercise can really fix my appetite and tire me out. I have nothing left, other than that blind hope, even though I'm mostly disabled.

If you can start with eating a bit more that helps to do other stuff and so helps with sleep. It's a circle, food is the best place to start. Even if you can't do much exercise then you still sleep better than on an empty stomach

I can tell you that the sleeping issue does not help the situation. My issue is that for hours before I drag myself out of bed for work I'm laying there thinking about anything and everything. It tends to get very dark and filled with anger/anxiety and suicidal thoughts. The last 6 months I've been doing this most mornings (even non work days) for 4-5 hours before my day even starts. Imagine yourself lying in bed for 5 hours thinking the most horrible and drastic things and how that will affect your day.. That's where I'm at.

going to bed earlier the day before has no change. I'll just simply get up earlier. I'd say I manage about 2 hours of sleep each night. (who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and turn into a tyler durden type situation.. ha..)
