I want to know everyone's crazy and weird stories from their visits to the psych ward. Nothing is off the table as long as it's a interesting read.

Man, I wish I had a cool story! My stay was pretty boring. The food was great though. I mean, it was kind of funny when I bought a pizza and had it delivered and then ate it by myself in a dark room haha

The first day I arrived, my first time in a ward, all the minors were sculpting Play-Doh dicks. The nurse was there sitting with us & thought it was funny; I did not think it was funny being a prude kid coming from a cult, but I participated because it was my first day there and I didn't want to ostracize myself.

You're from a cult? Wow! Must be some wild stories there, too

I somehow always ended up friends with kids who were there for anger issues, drug issues, or running away. I had 9 different stays as a minor. Each about 2-3 weeks, most at the same unit.

I remember a guy randomly turning and punching a hole in the drywall, no reason, no warning, I believe it was because sometimes they would give aggresive patients stuff to calm down and let them go to their room alone. He was a very sweet guy honestly. The next day he helped the handyman who came patch up the hole as the man explained how.

I remember a young boy once throwing tables and chairs because he couldnt have a soda. I felt bad for him. He needed to be restrained.

I don't remember alot of super in depth memories, but the ones I do have im weirdly fond of. Excluding the memory of being left alone in a room with laundry detergent open after being admitted for consuming bleach at age 14 , our therapist loved to have us make slime. I hated her, honestly.

Sorry these weren't very weird or crazy :(

I do remember they moved me to the secure room and I didn't reallly understand why. At that point in my life it seemed like everywhere I went people were suspicious and nervous around me. Thank goodness that part is over.

Most of my stories from psych hospitals are upsetting/traumatic, but I do have some happy/funny memories, too.

During my first hospitalization, there was this one old lady I'll call Janice. She was notorious because she acted the most "crazy", doing things like stripping naked in the hallways, babbling nonsense, and making out with her reflection in the windows. She could be tough to deal with directly but I kind of loved her.

And one night, I stayed up late in the main room, with almost no one there but me, Janice, and the nurses. Janice suddenly started to sing loudly to herself, jumping up from her seat and spinning around the room. The nurses got up to tell her to be quiet, but before they could leave their station, she swept me up into her arms, trying to get me to dance with her. I decided, fuck it, and started singing and dancing around the room with her. We absolutely disturbed some sleeping people, but it was worth it. Even made the nurses laugh a bit.

I was put on suicide watch in a prison for a month.
First night I had to strip down and was only allowed to wear a canvas apron thing for the whole time for a month.
Toilet on the first night was a bucket in the corner of the room and just a thick plastic mattress on the floor.
Cameras in the room constantly watched 24/7. Books or magazines had to have the staples etc removed from them.
Next door cell mate said he would break my arms and that just for trying to get the radio station changed.
It was a shit time tbh.

I was a menace at my SAIP unit and was the reason for a major design change in the units and all future units. All the lights had glass covers that you could rip out and I did just that. I would move furniture, climb onto window seals, stand ontop of doors, climb onto shelves, and loop in other clients to guard me and help barricade rooms so I could rip the lights out, smash them, and cut myself. I destroyed over a dozen light covers and bulbs in my time there, going so far as to ingest a bunch of glass once.

I also managed to takeover half the unit with two other kids, steal walkies from staff, and break a bunch of shit. Almost got a riot charge for that one but surrendered when the police came. I never hurt other staff or kids, just myself during all this.

I also escaped the highest level of care my state could provide. I was 2:1 within arms length of my staff on high risk, and lived in my own mini unit. I worked real hard to gain cafeteria privileges, to where my two staff would walk me to the cafeteria and I ate lunch there. I was good for some time to build trust and encourage the staff to relax, then I ran. I escaped by jumping up onto the serving station and leaping into the kitchen, then running out the back delivery doors. I scaled a chain link fence and was free. After wandering around for a bit, I made my way to an overpass and was going to jump. SI kicked in though and I had a long standoff with police before getting ripped down as I was about to jump.

I also escaped another time when out on a doctors appointment. While waiting for the medical transport I bolted from staff into a busy road, got hit by a car, and continued running to a 6-story parking garage. Once I got to the top I cut myself, and tried to work up the courage to jump. Police got called and it turned into this big long ordeal to where I was again ripped off. They brought me back to the unit, and there I managed to get a hold of a cops gun which prompted me to get the lights beat out of me, and I was restrained then heavily sedated.

Another notable mention is me running away from my staff on yet another off unit doctors appointment. Expect this went real south because I got so much blood drawn I was out of it. I ended up running the wrong way, into the lower portion of the parking garage and the staff was FAST. Like so fast I had to leap up onto a car to avoid getting caught. I had no way to escape as both staff were there, so I stomped out the windshield of the car and used the glass to harm myself. Cops came and one of them snatched my ankle and drug me through the broken windshield and I was detained, but brought back to the unit.

This just touches the tip of the iceberg honestly. Ive been to treatment 6 different times and I spent almost 3 straight years at a SAIP unit. I did and witnessed a lot of insane stuff.

I don't think I have any crazy or wild stories. I've been to 11 inpatients all for either ideation or attempts. I always manage to find someone to talk to; typically someone way older than me. It actually is sad to see someone in their 50s or 60s at a psych ward and I think it's probably why I feel like I should just do it and get it over with cause I don't wanna be in my 50s or 60s and still being sent to inpatient. Out of all the inpatients I've been to the one in New York City was probably my favorite though it feels strange to have a favorite inpatient. The only reason I ended up there is because my friend lived there and I wanted to say goodbye to them before I attempted. Otherwise, I've only experienced wards in the south mainly Georgia or South Carolina and as you can imagine they aren't very understanding. Two of them were like prisons. Maybe because they hope that it'll keep you from trying again. One of them let you use your cell phone for a bit which is nice. I never understood the no cell phone rule. I've been to a few in the Midwest. They say Roger's is the best but tbh it's like all the others. Plus they're incredibly understaffed. Mostly I remember this one kid who punched a wall right outside my room and the sound it made was so scary.
