If SS gets taken down, something else will take its place. If that gets taken down, another site will pop up. Suicidal people will always be looking for information and support for their suicidality. It's just the nature of mental illness. I understand people who want to get rid of pro-choice resources. I really really do. The idea that folks are choosing to die and supporting that choice for others is a hard pill to swallow. It's incredibly grim. For those who have come here from the NYT article though, I want to ask you: do you think SS is the problem? Or Lost All Hope? Or Peaceful Pill? Because I'm not going to lie, I think it's very naive to think it is. I feel like NYT is looking at this from a very backwards perspective. I read the article, and they very much seem to be adamant that banning these sites would save lives. It absolutely would not. People would find the info somewhere else if this site didn't exist. What WOULD save more lives is putting the energy they're using to get SS banned to actually fund and promote good mental health services that can give people the resources to live good lives. Advocate for public mental health care, destigmatize suicidal thoughts, work to uplift and empower the lower class. NYT is a huge entity. They have the power to truly help, but they're focusing on the completely wrong thing. People are here because they have nowhere else to turn. Wanna prevent people from coming here? Help give them somewhere else to fucking turn instead of just belittling them for doing their best with what they have.

Shutting some website down is cheaper and more convenient than doing any of the things you propose, and afterwards they can pat themselves on the back for "having done something good".

You say 'It's just the nature of mental illness.' I don't agree that suicidal thoughts are a sign of mental illness, at least not in a lot of cases. Suicide is a very rational solution to suffering that cannot be ameliorated. Wanting to CTB is not necessarily a sign of mental illness but a logical solution.

If CTB it's legal in some countries why can't we have our opinion also right?

That's a good point!! I guess you could say it's the nature of suicidality, or the nature of suffering

In my opinion wanting to stick around till the decrepit age of 100,, wearing a diaper, getting slapped in the face in some nursing home in this shit hole of a world is a sign of mental illness.
