• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

Reason to ctb #672…

We are all surrounded by death and murder 24-7. Everyday.

Quick back story about me: I was raised Christian, and talking about murders in the Bible was a constant theme in church. "Person/group did this, God didn't like it, God killed them." Commence the brainwashing… "God said don't do this, you're going to Hell/God will kill you if you do that" and "don't you dare question it because you will go to Hell".

I'm sure your religion has similar stories.

If you can't relate to that, I'm sure you can relate to this though…

Death and murder are covered 24-7 in the news, with main stream media publicly reporting on every war or senseless killing they can get their hands on. Think War in Ukraine, Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc, all publicly televised. Cop killing civilians, civilians killing civilians, "insert country/person here" killing "insert minority/group here".

Not to mention all the movies and video games focused on murder and death.

And who doesn't enjoy a good action movie, murder mystery, or horror movie, war game, first person shooter, hack n slash?

All considered "normal" to openly talk about with very little fear of backlash or consequence.

Crazy how it's "normal" to openly talk about people killing each other.

A good majority of people in this world actual celebrate people on people violence "as long as they're killing/hurting the people I don't like".

But if you start thinking and talking about killing your self, now everyone is concerned, now you're on a list, and thrown in a psych ward because that's not "normal".

"Here take these pills, be happy people are killing each other! And hey, while you're here, join the military/become a cop and kill somebody else for free!"

"And don't forget, it's perfectly okay to talk about who killed who today as long as you don't make it about yourself!"

The world is slowly dying, not just the planet itself, but all of the people that live on it. Many people are not concerned about a problem until it affects them. Those who are not affected by the killings around the world are sometimes those who have not experience any of its effects. I don't know why people are more concerned about those who mention suicide but not the mass that emphasize killings. Half of the time, what goes on AROUND us is the reason we choose to ctb.

Religion is such an odd thing. Whenever I was growing up, I was raised in a similar environment as you and was constantly surrounded by graphic depictions of torture and hell. Some of my earliest memories were having nightmares of what eternal torture would be like, dying and being burnt alive over and over again on a loop.

I have no idea what goes through the mind of devout religious people to think it is a good idea to subject children to such visceral fear and graphic descriptions of how you will be tormented in various ways until the end of time if you don't follow every tenant of their religion of choice. Fear conditioning is one hell of a drug. It ensured I would start having existential crises at an early age, that's for sure.

I've noticed the same thing as you, casualty numbers can go up in a war and only those who have a stake in the situation lose sleep over it, to everyone else it's just part of the daily news cycle, it is easy to become numb to such terrible things happening when we are constantly exposed to it. Suicide is still too much of a taboo to be discussed openly, and I think this is why it is still seen as this shocking and unbelievable phenomena to many people, they can't fathom that there are individuals out there who live with ideation daily or for years because we aren't allowed to talk about it. Discussing crime and punishment, or the bloodiness of war, is not as taboo, for whatever reason, these topics are normalised as appropriate to talk about freely in a lot of conversations.

A man who fights in a battle and takes someone else's life is seen as a hero protecting his country, even if he was forced to perform actions that go against his morals, for another's political gain. I always found it unnerving how willingly teenagers would be given speeches about the benefits and perks of joining the military, as if is not a system that trains most of it's members to be complacent with violence and death if you see combat enough. God forbid you live in a country where military service is mandatory. And yet, shaping young people into tools for the war machine is seen as a noble effort, even though it is something that forever changes a person and damages their psyche.

A young, healthy person can be sent to die in futile conflicts, against their better judgement. And yet, think of how many countries in which euthanasia is still illegal for the terminally ill who desperately need it. This world doesn't make sense to me.

True but I imagine people's reactions to a natural death vs. horrible accident vs. suicide vs. murder vary greatly. The problem with suicide is actually kind of similar to the reaction to murder in a way. It can be a terrible shock for those left behind. I imagine they can feel like their loved one was taken from them before their time. In a way, I think we almost see a separation- it was their mental illness or the internet (even this forum) that killed them. It wasn't really them. I often find loved ones don't want to accept that the person made the choice to leave them ultimately.

I wonder if we'll ever be that desentisized to death. We're definitely not at the moment. Otherwise, assisted suicide would be legalised and available everywhere and we'd all be open about how we feel.
