I'd imagine so, yeah. They probably choked on their own blood, couldn't breathe from the obstruction or bled out. I'm not sure on the exact cause of death there. Probably not peaceful.

I hope if these people were suffering they found peace in death that they couldn't find in life.
That said I think there may be more to this than meets the eye and I'd like to know more to rule out any foul play. With all the other alleged more peaceful methods this seems a bit whack to me.

well, perhaps i'm too idealistic, but one of them was a hunter, perhaps all of them. they were convinced, they believed in what they were doing and they knew probably how to use a crossbow. they just did it and it worked. (perhaps i'm wrong) i would like to be that convinced about my capabilities. i wish they achieved what they wanted to achieve and that death is what they wanted.
