I received a bottle containing Filmerine, and it is supposed to be sod. nitrite however appears to have been placed on the bottle by hand. The container opening has the silver seal, and below that it is a plastic seall. The label states 99.89% purity, and laboratory reagent. Can I trust that this is 99.89% sod. nitrite? It also has 200 written on the label by hand, and that is it. Thank you.

I got it online from either ebay/amazon, but it came from Russia. I have never made an online purchase before, and this has got to work. It looks slightly creamy, tiny crystals, but I have not taken off the plastic seal. Thank you so much for your help Scales.

Can you link the eBay/amazon ? I can check the seller information.

What is the color? It should be kind of yellowish white. By creamy do you mean the crystals are meshed together in a cream/milk like liquid? That's not good. If you mean the color is creamy that is good.

Unfortunately not. At least I do not think so. I could not figure out how to use paypal without a credit card, and asked someone else to order it for me...groan. Is there any other way to give you the information?

That appears to be the colour, and it is a powder, creamy...sigh. I am sorry to bother you with this scale.

How much did it cost you to buy? I'm not sure how to test it for purity... I assume you need a specific assay but lack the information for how to go about it, someone else might know.

In some cases, it might be more expensive to test for purity than to buy it again from a more reliable seeming seller. I hope someone else can answer your question and help you out, I don't know myself.

There is no number on the top left hand side of the label, nor does it say sodium nitrite. It is called Filmerine on the bottle, and lacks the letters NaNO2. I fear that I have been ripped off and do not know how to test it.

Gosh Scale I am taking up a lot of your time. Just wanted to add that all of the other chemical bottles they sell have the letters designating the chemical on the label, and it cost $26.50 Usan for 200 gm.

Reagent is a chemical supplier but this seller.. I can't tell based off of them whether it's the real thing or not. Filmerine is Sodium Nitrite so no worries there but the handwriting would concern me... I'm not sure how to tell if it's good or not, if the purity is low but it's still SN then you could try mixing more of it to get the same effect? Like maybe twice what you would have done otherwise?

Yea, I see that one Duqu, but they do not ship to Canada, and every time I put nitrite into American ebay, it changes to nitrate...hmmm.

You're right; I looked at amazon canada and they seem to only have alternatives (I guess it's not used in meat curing there? Odd.
