If you test NaNO3 with Bartovation test strips, will only the pad used to test NaNO3 change color or the pad of NaNO2 will also change color?

If both change color, how do you confirm that it is only NaNO2 or only NaNO3?

With blood test?

In this thread it says that both use the same reaction: https://sanctioned-suicide.net/thre...-method-comprehensive-guide-sn-method.121672/

And in this thread some members supposedly did a test with NaNO2 and both pads change color.: https://sanctioned-suicide.net/threads/checking-to-see-if-my-sn-passed-the-purity-test.120980/

So if you bought 99% NaNO2 and over time it has oxidized and now there is 70% NaNO2 and 29% NaNO3. Will it look like 99% on the test strips?

This is what I'd like to know too because my tests show high levels of both. As my test is an aquarium test I assume it means there is both 2 and 3 rather than both red means it only has one or the other but it does seem odd. I saw one post on here where someone queried the same result but the thread didn't go anywhere. Does the 3 level matter as long as 2 is high?

Found this comment on an aquarium forum where someone had asked about high nitrite and nitrate levels in their tank while 'cycling' it (letting the bacteria break the ammonia and nitrites down). I can only guess this means that if anything, nitrate readings could be wrong if there is high nitrite.

But as they haven't said also it could work the other way around, at the moment I'm inclined to think nitrite readings are not adversely affected by high nitrate. Clarification is still needed though.

Don't test nitrate if you have nitrite. Some nitrate tests are thrown off if nitrite is present.
