I purchased a quantofix that measures up to 80mg/l of nitrite and a balance that measures up to 0.001g.
With the goal of 80mg/l, only 0.08g was added to 1L, but the result did not show a color close to 80mg. As a result of the experiment, when 0.2 g was added, a color corresponding to 80 mg/l was obtained. Confusing. Two other sources failed.
Has anyone experimented with quantofix? When 0.08g was added, did 80mg/l color come out?

I haven't tried this or any other SN testing but I was going to buy these strips for testing. However, I wonder with your results if these are good for testing SN or not.

Tested SN using quantofix and shot for 10 mg per liter using 5g SN. Then doubled the amount of water transferred to bottle 2 to shoot for 20 mg per liter.

I would say that they gave pretty accurate results as far as color change I was expecting. I used smart water which is distilled but had electrolytes, especially chlorine. Now, there may have been some interaction of that ion with the test strip but maybe not. I tried to be as accurate as possible with water transfers and all.

The instructions for the strip said something like the far end is the pad for nitrate and the closer one (to where you would hold it out closer to your hand) is for nitrites. This is what I understood. I held it up to the bottle as in the picture they had in the instructions.

In the pic below (sorry, I didn't have time to make cool drawings like other posts have) you'll see the nitrite color which showed what I believed to be closer to 10 mg per ml (2 pics) and the second pic to be closer to 20 mg per ml. (2 pics}

The nitrate was way much lighter in color so I think I held the test strip the proper way. Also, I forgot to hold the test strip between the 10 and 20 mg per liter readings as I did for the 20 mg to compare the color gradient.

Hoping this is accurate. I will likely test again soon but without distilled water and only tap water. I also forgot to do a baseline reading of the distilled water. I'll have to remember that for next time.
