I recently purchased this Sodium Nitrite from a chemical supplier. It is food grade min. 98%. However, I opened it twice in the last week. Once to do the blood test, and another to measure it out. Since then I have closed the bottle. Can anyone with chemistry knowledge tell me if this is going to be a problem? I know that nitrite converts to nitrate when exposed to air. How quickly though? Have I messed up?

Thanks! I noticed that guide says it can be damaged over time, but there was conflicting info about how long. Some say 24 hours?

It's fine for Many years unless it gets wet or very humid ..
Too complicated!Simple:
  • Water solution – potent for few hours
  • Packed air-tight – few years
  • . . . Clumps, temporary exposure to air are ok
  • Air – few weeks
  • . . . Will lose potency, slowly

Okay, I hope so. I just saw different information about how even small air exposure could lead it to deteriorate rapidly. Thankyou.
