Singer Coco Lee dies by suicide at age 48

Lee was the voice of Fa Mulan in the Mandarin version of Disney's Mulan, and also sang the Mandarin version of the movie's theme song, "Reflection."

Lee, who was born in Hong Kong but later moved to the U.S. where she attended middle and high school, had a highly successful career in Asia as a pop singer in the 1990s and 2000s, where she was known for her powerful voice and live performances.

The star had been suffering from depression for several years, Lee's elder sisters Carol and Nancy Lee said in a statement posted on Facebook and Instagram, with her condition deteriorating drastically over the last few months.

"Although, CoCo sought professional help and did her best to fight depression, sadly that demon inside of her took the better of her," the statement read.

Lee attempted suicide over the weekend and she was rushed to a hospital, her sister said. They said that she was in a coma and died on Wednesday.

She was married to a billionaire.

Yeah, I read that she had a long battle with depression. Even with all the money and adulation a person can still succumb to suicide. I hope she is now at peace. Depression is a bitch.

I am sure all that wouldn't have helped her depression either. It would only have multiplied the illness even more.

I'm not sure how people survive divorces. it completely kills everything you believed to be true about yourself and others, it destroys everything you know, especially for someone who is already vulnerable and suffering

Sadly no one ever really gets what they deserve. Abusers in most cases win and that's across socioeconomic or cultural lines. Legal justice covers very little injustices in this world :(
I never really got to listen to her music but I looked up to her in many ways, she broke a lot cultural and racial boundaries in many ways very early on, she was definitely a pioneer. RIP.

It's not clear, maybe these kind of things don't get released for months until it makes it's way through the proper channels, and mostly probably never revealed. It only says she was in a coma. People speculated what it could have been in this thread earlier
