Maybe I haven't gone into the whole saga here on SaSu, but I know I've dropped bits and pieces.
I have a lot of fuckin health problems. And because of that, in order to maintain full time employment AND stay on top of treatment, I need FMLA (federally protected sick leave, for those outside the US). In my case, it's intermittent leave, so instead of being gone for 12 straight weeks, I will still be working, just taking time off here and there.
This might be a weird flex, but I have an entourage of professionals that can fill out FMLA paperwork for me and it would be approved. However, my mainstays are my neurologist (migraine disease and ongoing seizure consultation) and psychiatry (need I explain this one?) I can honestly say that I've never had FMLA paperwork denied. I thank God each and every day that the US got this one thing right and allowed people like me to have a job and be healthy and be there for our families.
Until now.
See, I'm not the brightest person that ever lived. I actually thought that if a doctor submitted a claim for leave and it was approved, that was the end of the story. But no. It is not. Apparently a third party claims company gets to decide whether my doctor's word is good enough and whether I am sick enough for them to approve my absences and tardies. I had just arrived at work when my coach pulled me aside and told me that I had exceeded my leave hours.
What the actual fuck?
According to this third party claims company, I am only allowed six tardies...not even absences, but tardies...a month for illness. Oh, and my illness can only last 3 hours at a time or my claim can be denied.
If I had to utilize my leave to go to the ER for a psychiatric emergency, that could take up to 72 hours.
Migraines, from start to finish, can last up to 72 hours. One time I had a migraine where I lost my vision. If I exceed the three hour limit and I'm still blind, what exactly am I supposed to do?
I bet none of these motherfuckers are timed when they get sick.
I'm doing everything right. I'm staying alive and taking my meds and paying taxes and performing normalcy all day every day and it's still not good enough. They're asking me to basically endanger my life to come to work. While I'm on leave trying to save my life. Does this make any sense to anyone?
