I have a terminal illness and have applied to Dignitas for assisted suicide. I have supplied them with tons of paperwork documenting my conditions but still have not received the provisional green light. Once (if) I get that, I would need to travel half way round the world to see their doctors and have them verified that my illness is incurable and I am of sound mind to make the decision for self-euthanasia. I don't know how much longer it'd take and my health is declining fast.

I have Pentobarb, should I just take it in my home country and screw Dignitas? Any input would be highly appreciated as I am at my wit's end and probably not thinking straight. Thanks

If you have pento then wouldn't you feel a lot more comftorable, and at ease doing it in the comfort of familiar surroundings where you live??

In your situation the effort to sort Dignitas feels like a lot of unnecessary stress??

Honestly, if I had pento, I'd just take it at home when I was ready and skip that whole process. Why bother with all of that effort and additional stress?

I'm in the same position as you, terminal and declining quite fast. I'm not bothering with Dignitas as it's too costly and long a process. I'm planning on taking a lethal cocktail of Oxys and Morphine when I feel ready. If you feel that the Pento will work for sure, I'd say go for it. It's nicer to die at home in bed rather than schlepping half-way across the world to die.

I saw some pics of the Dignitas 'exit' house. I was looking around at Dignitas and a second option. Honestly, I couldn't believe how ugly and depressing it was. Ghastly blue corrigated metal in an industrial area, and you access it via a wooden bridge that looks like old pallets over a swamp. Certainly put me off.

I have Pentobarb

I can't sense how you're feeling right now through the internet, but I'll try to give advice.

If you're feeling really bad right now and feel like you really, really want to CTB, go for it. Ofcourse, ask us if you've got any questions but if you really want to die, but why wait to enjoy the sweet release on death?

On the other hand, if you wait for everything with assisted suicide to go through, your family and friends might understand your decision better and be able to cope with your loss better as opposed to you suddenly leaving using Pentobarb.

It's interesting isn't it - when I first read about Dignitas I imagined for the money one paid it would be a more fairy tale cottage setting, or a Swiss chalet like in Heidi. But no :-/

Exactly! Me too. I think it used to be in a decent apartment in a residential area, but the neighbours didn't like the idea of a constant flow of Dignitas ex-members being carried out in body bags. No sense of humour, the Swiss, lol.

So, they thought an industrial area would bring fewer complaints. Apparently it does, but where it is now it's not where I'd want to spend my last hours after splashing out around 8-10K euros.

I personally was booked in for this weekend, but l read on Trip Adviser that not only is it an absolute bastard to find a decent parking space, but the decor is apparently bland and tasteless and there isn't even a bar! Thankfully l managed to cancel in time to qualify for a 50% refund.

Not sure if that is sarcasm. I'm really bad at detecting that.. I have similarly "high standards". Especially when you pay tens of thousands of dollars I would expect a 5 star hotel experience. For that money you can rent a freakin helicopter to bring you in.

I've thought a lot about the final scenery. Not very realistic since I can't go outside and have no funds - but I can certainly understand wanting a nice view. Especially when trying to view it as a celebration of peace instead of it being some gloomy disturbing event.

I hope OP found peace.

I think for some people making it more "official" with someone there directing you and giving you the papers and N etc is more comforting. It's easier to follow and feel "cared" for. There is no objectively "right" or "wrong" answer. It's what FEELS right to you. What makes you the most comfortable.

And yeah people should remove romantic ideals of a fireside death in a nice chalet overlooking a quaint village and mountains from their minds if that's a big part of the draw. It's not that.

Agreed. I signed up for the other Swiss option 2-3 years back when diagnosed with an iffy condition. But I've never felt entirely comfortably exiting in a strange and unhomely environment.

Plus, I'd be worried about putting on too much weight from eating all that N chocolate, lol...

Totally agree! Don't you get a time slot too? It looked a bit too much like going to the dentist for my liking

I could never contemplate exiting without a bar nearby. A shameful level of pre-planning. I want to feel the spirit in me when I go, ha ha..

Lolll!! Absolutely! I would want something warming through my veins to mellow me out and put me in a cheerful frame of mind. Not just a man in a white coat bringing in a phial on a tea tray while I'm dressed in a nightgown
