I'm ctb tomorrow in my home via inert gas asphyxia. I'll basically use the exit bag, but with a full face snorkel mask instead. I'll have at least 2 hours to do it without anyone in the house. Should I maybe put a sign outside my door warning people there is a dead body in there? So that my parents don't find me?

Edit: Thank you so much everyone for the suggestions.

My completely honest guess is that they'd open the door regardless.

It's a good question. I'll probably ctb in the bathroom and I'm also thinking about putting a sign outside the door. I don't want my parents (or worse, my younger brother) to find me.

If you are using deadly gas you should defiantly put a sign up. You do not want to accidently poison your parents end or anyone else

Thanks everyone. I think I'll put the sign up. The door will be locked so they'll have to knock it down anyway, and I imagine they'll see the sign.

Locking the door is a good idea, I wish I could do that too but I doubt I can find the key

You're doing it in your own home on the same day your parents are visiting? Or you living with parents and they're going out for a few hours?

Make sure they're gone and you may wait to see if they come back especially if they forgot something. A sign on the door with "Call 911. Dangerous gases" . I wish you well and safe travels.

I would definitely leave a note. It won't stop them from busting the door down and seeing your corpse, but it'll at least be a moment of advance warning. Especially if you say something like, "I ended my life an hour ago," with a timestamp that tells them they aren't missing their chance to save you by mere seconds.

A warning about "Dangerous Gas" would be an excellent idea, and might slow them down.

Was originally going to a hotel but ill do it at home, noone comes to visit anyway and saves me the trouble of if i back out having wasted even more money. Get in a warm bath so im relaxed, wear a bathing suit so im not naked and go via nitrogen. Least if my body leaks fluid be easier to clean up i guess. Be a few days before anyone comes to check as im not under home treatment anymore but ill put a sign up on the bathroom door just incase, suicide note on the toilet seat. Was going to see if i can get an advance directive in place but if i do it at home i 100% wont be found in time

Hey brother. I think you should definitely put up a sign because of the danger of the gas. But the only way you can prevent them ignoring the sign, kicking the door in and finding you, and putting themselves at risk is to do it somewhere else. I don't know if that's possible for you I just think anyone would ignore that sign.

2nd person who will ctb in one day... as far as i know all inert gases are not toxic and won't hurt anyone else. So, basically, i don't think there is a reason for that sign. Am i right ?

If for some reason it does leak out it can cause people to pass out especially those with respiratory problems. There was a case where 2 workes were put at harm. One worker went in to clean the tank but passed out, the second went in to rescue the first and also passed out. Turns out the inert gas hadnt been flushed out before the worker went in to clean the tank.

So a note wont harm anyone and its always best to warn people just incase. More than likely they will ignore the note anyway tho

You are correct. In this particular circumstance, the inert gases typically used to ctb would be non-toxic.

The problems that people refer to elsewhere in this thread involve enormous amounts of gas, the type of situation that would happen in an industrial setting.

However, a sign might be useful for another reason: it forewarns of what's on the other side of the door. A dead person with a bag over their head might be a shock to see.

Edited: I'm sorry, op is using a scuba mask. not a bag.

If you use gas then yeah you should put a sign up warning about that so they can at least hold their breath will getting your body out of the room because they WILL go inside the room.

If you care about your parents you shouldn't ctb at home. If you don't, whether you put a sign up or not shouldn't matter.

There is literally no where else to do it. I can't even afford a hotel because I spent my money on this.

If you live somewhere with wilderness that would be an option.(Not viable in nyc or any other compact city.)

I don't. It's going to have to be in the house. But I'll put up a sign about dangerous gas or something as well as a dead body. It's all I can do. I don't really know anywhere around here where I could go to and have certainty that I won't be found in time.

Honestly, even if you had a sign that read deadly gases I'm sure they'd still break the door down before calling police. If your objective is for your parents to not find your body and be traumatized, i suggest you write on the note, "Danger, extremely poisonous gases, one breath can kill, door sealed, do not break.Call 911."

I also suggest actually getting heavy furniture and barricading yourself in the room. I always recommend when people are killing them selves in buildings, barricade the doors.

I'm not so sure it is. You're going to have a serious emergency response with that "poisonous gasses" note: fire department, inter-agency HazMat, police, and who the hell knows who else in this day and age of terrorism and hyperbole. Letting them know "Suffocation Hazard (N2)" might be better.

Look, your parents will see your corpse. They will be traumatized. They're your parents, after all. The only possible way to reduce the shock value is to make sure they don't walk in on you expecting to find you alive. For that, a simple "I ended my life 30 minutes after you left the house. Please be careful: I used inert gas and there may be residual gas in my room that could harm you if you do not immediately ventilate my room" should do the job.

Those are good points. I guess it's inevitable they will see my corpse. I don't know, maybe I should find a way to make a hotel room work.

Are you unable to use a car? Also, didn't you say a few weeks ago that you didn't want to ctb? I'm curious/concerned about what changed, but if you don't wanna open up no worries.
