shotgun questions

i think ive decided that i want to go through with something. cutting my wrists, hanging, overdosing, all of them have failed or landed me in the hospital. im done with trying to salvage whats left of my life, when all i see looking forward is more misery, more disappointment, and no possible chance at feeling anything but empty and suicidal. i just want it to end. ive saved up money over the past few months to purchase a shotgun. i have only $500 to my name and i want to make it count. what is the best gauge of shotgun to buy? ik 12 gauge is generally more lethal than 20 gauge but ive also heard about slugs being good. i know next to nothing about firearms so im looking to get some pointers in the right direction. anything helps.

all my opinion:

12 gauge shotgun is best .

magnum slugs or magnum 00 buckshot or magnum 000 buckshot is best.

Pretty much what @pthnrdnojvsc said. Also, shot placement and aim is very important, never below the chin and if through the mouth, the angle should be enough to hit through the brain stem. Hitting and destroying the brain stem is basically guaranteed death.

I wish I had my hands on one, I don't live alone so obviously I can't just put one in their house because they know what I am gonna do with it.

would that entail me aiming the barrel more towards the back of my throat, or up slightly from there, pointing more towards the roof of my mouth

I think upwards but not too far where you might only destroy the frontal lobe. Also, by not flinching and anticipating the shot will help with accuracy.

Not too high in the mouth. Slightly elevated but not into the soft palate

Get a mirror and practice the angle a couple of times (with the gun NOT loaded yet of course). With the right shotgun the odds will be in your favor even if you miscalculate where the brainstem sits by a few inches but make sure you NEVER aim straight up or through chin. You'll blow your face off and nobody wants that!!!!!

Wherever you go be careful.

If you shoot yourself in the head through the mouth you will die. Watch the Ronnie McNutt video or others. It literally will spit your head in two. A slug will do just as much damage close range maybe less mess.

what would be "the right shotgun", if you know?

im currently looking into a mossberg 590 shockwave, since its in my price range and has a short barrel on it, which i assume is better, but really im just guessing

Short barrel is much better. Mossberg is a good gun. I have a 12 gage.

Mossberg is fine. Remember you're only going to need it once. You could get a cheaper one and be fine as well.

Whatever you want. Buy something you want go for a small vacation I don't know
