Thanks for posting this. I relate to what this woman went through with years upon years of "treatment." For me, in the end, it won't be the terror involved in yet another inevitable downswing but the process of it all. I'm so tired of the repetition. And like in the woman in the video, I have no life. No quality of life, either. I've spent so much goddamn time taking on the Herculean task of staying alive that the substance of life passed by.

But there's a beauty about this film. The documentary "How to Die in Oregon" presented the same beauty. A lot of pro-lifers or people who have never been in or considered this position won't understand, and I suppose me using a term often reserved for life would make a lot of them mad. But this is life. Because of the taboo nature of self-termination, I think we're being robbed. We're being robbed of something very dear to the human experience and it saddens me immensely. How many people, even on this site, had to hold onto their pain until they were completely alone? How many are robbed of the opportunity to look someone in the eyes and say "This will be the last time I will see you. I love you."

Agree with her. Her life, her choice. Real courage. They had some time to all talk openly, share their thoughts and feelings. That's certainly something most of us will not have. I hope those left behind have some peace from those exchanges.

Those are true and beautiful words you put there, Your Own Ghost.

How to Die in Oregon - TubiTV - Full Documentary

I provided a link the documentary I mentioned in the post above if anyone's interested. It's on TubiTV, an ad-supported video site similar to Crackle. Sorry, it wouldn't let me embed the video.

I wonder what its like, not having to die alone. To be supported like that. I wish this was how the world was.

The documentary "How to Die in Oregon" is also available on Hoopla (at least in my area). Thank you so much for bringing it to our attention!

A wonderful article about the film "Letting You Go" is entitled "Is the right to die with dignity a civil right?" The article is an interview with the director of the film, Kim Faber, and with Sanne's father, Hubert Jansen.

The article talks about how the film "is a provocative look at the limits society places on free will." It quotes Sanne's father, Hubert, advocating "the right to die with dignity should be universal." and saying "You can better live a short life, than a bad long life."

Kim Faber says: "[Suicide] is a civil right. The right to self-determination. It's your own life, and you can make decisions about your own life. Nobody should make you stay in this life longer if you don't want to. It's your own choice."

Here's the link to the article

Very good documentation!

Does anyone know, with what method this woman ended her life?

@Spiko I think she used N or something similar, I'm not sure if they said specifically... they refer to her death as self-euthanasia because they say that the method she used was more peaceful than is typical in suicides.
