I dig sherlock holmes and twilight zone. Anyone else?

Firstly let me say I'm not a 'super fan', of anything. I don't usually talk about things I like and why, I just enjoy. I'm more of a feeler so I don't think too deeply into it, but I am very particular in what I like.

So, I'm a bigger sherlock holmes fan. What can I say, mysteries are intriguing and I like eccentric, obsessive characters who might come off a little bit of an ass. I've read the original stories by arthur conan doyle, enjoyed BBC's Sherlock for the most part (my intro to Sherlock) and Grenada's sherlock holmes adaptations especially, which I completed watching recently (actually I found one series I missed, will start watching tonight). I think Jeremy Brett was/is a gem and agree he's the quintessential Sherlock Holmes. I found myself rewinding scenes to recapture his facial expressions, or something I found amusing or delightful in his acting. Of course, for those who know, getting through the last season was rough, not only with Brett's health obviously failing, but the excessive mirror work made it agonizing to finish. For that reason I'm grateful I missed a series lol

Twilight Zone, I've yet to watch the entirety of the original series but intend to start back up shortly this month. Themes like desolation, isolation, and madness appeal to me a lot. I'm not necessarily a fantasy or sci-fi fan, stereotypically- hardly at all, yet this show does it for me. The intro of the show itself is so much. I love a good show with an equally impressive opening credits sequence! I considered watching jordan peele's Twlight Zone but never got around to checking it out. Anybody watched it and thought it was decent? As for other additions to the twilight zone franchise, I'm not very interested and get the sense I wouldnt be so charmed as with the b&w original

I quite liked Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes. I think the most out of the pre-modern era SH actors.
BBC's Sherlock
I did enjoy the first three seasons. But not the fourth. So I don't know if a fifth is a good idea. I think Andrew Scott was very good as Moriarty.

Never watched or played anything Sherlock Holmes related, but already read almost all of the books

I'm a big mystery appraiser, especially murder mysteries. I dig things like Danganronpa, even

Good to know, I planned to start watching Basil Rathbone's portrayal of Sherlock next.. I doubt I'll get around to watching it all sadly, there's oodles of Sherlock on Tubi. Ronald Howard as Sherlock I found to be watchable, though more lighthearted/ comical than my usual. Has that Andy Griffith feel to it, of the time

I need to re-watch Sherlock, I can't even remember if I watched the 5th season. I believe it was the fourth season the show started feeling off. I think when they introduced Eurus. I recall not liking that they killed off Mary. I agree Andrew Scott was good, very believable. And those eyes. Wasnt he always chomping on gum or maybe I'm just thinking of one scene lol

Definitely had to search Danganronpa

"The series primarily surrounds various groups of apparent high-school students who are forced into murdering each other by a robotic teddy bear..."

There is no fifth season yet. For 7 years or so now the producers are stating now that the schedule of Cumberbatch and Freeman doesn't allow for that. I don't know about that. But as I said, I don't know if I would want a fifth. Exactly, when they introduced Eurus, or late in the 3rd season, was when it started to become worse in my opinion too. I have a feeling that the fan base is split about that and in general now. I thought the first seasons were in overall unanimously be found excellent. I didn't see a disadvantage in killing off Mary, but in killing of Moriarty. I know it's the same somehow in the books, but it was too early, maybe they already knew that they would not be able to produce much more seasons and felt they had to do it to fit in the scheme of the literature. But Cumberbatch, Freeman and Scott was a too good chemistry to kill off in my opinion.

I started watching the show, because of the fact, which Moffat and Gatiss once stated had been their original intention as well, which was adapt the plots of the original stories by Arthur Conan Doyle to the "modern world", which I thought they did brilliantly in the first episodes. But again, when they introduced Eurus, their well known fantasy became too wild in my opinion, and they more and more focused on things on which Arthur Conan Doyle did not focus on and moved further and further away from the original intention.

I've only seen the Twilight Zone and I love it, sci-fi with sociopolitical commentary and psychological horror often sprinkled in is lots of fun. One of my favourite episodes is the one where people have to choose their face from a set catalogue of options by a certain age, I remember watching it in high school as my first exposure to Twilight Zone and was hooked by the episodic nature that somehow managed to put out a plethora of different stories in this format without it getting stale or dull.

Never gotten around to watching Sherlock but it gets a lot of praise, so I've wanted to try it for a long time. Modern mysteries are a lot harder to write as a genre, imo, cause advanced tech tends to complicate things or make it difficult to suspend disbelief, as cameras, cellphones, etc capture so many happenings in the real world and leave tons of evidence. The movie Knives Out did a murder mystery in a modern setting really well, though.

Basil Rathbone's portrayal of Sherlock
I think the reason why I like him the most is just because in my opinion he is the most lookalike of the "real" Holmes, as portrayed by Sydney Paget.

Ah that's right, I'm glad at that. I know I wasn't pleased with the death rattle of either Breaking Bad or Dexter, two of my other favorite shows

I didn't see a disadvantage in killing off Mary, but in killing of Moriarty. I know it's the same somehow in the books, but it was too early,

I don't disagree. I was just fond of Mary alongside Watson, I suppose. I found BBC's Watson a bit too... sappy? I feel it's at least in part why I couldn't get into Freeman in The Responder. But yeah, it would've been nice to have seen more of Moriarty. Perhaps if they'd woven him into the show bit by bit rom the beginning and grew his presence on the show

I started watching the show, because of the fact, which Moffat and Gatiss once stated had been their original intention as well, which was adapt the plots of the original stories by Arthur Conan Doyle to the "modern world", which I thought they did brilliantly in the first episodes. Since I watched Sherlock before I read the books, I'm curious what I'd think of the show today. While I understood other characters' negative impression of Sherlock (a bit brutal that first episode I recall), Sherlock proclaiming he's a "high functioning sociopath" seemed outlandish and pandering to mental health awareness which was picking up steam at the time, only reaffirmed by the handling of Eurus's character and story. I agree it was fanciful and set the show off into some bizarre trajectory

Damnit, yes! Precisely this, thank you

I agree, it's partly what makes Sherlock interesting. It's funny, another user here asked if there were still any serial killers in the world; where'd they go? They're not extinct, they're only easier to catch nowadays and their crimes aren't as impressive/ newsworthy in the way they once were. For a serial killer it isn't easy making the news in the old sense, not in the age of information and where now we have so much data on behavioral and criminal psychology. It seems mass shootings has taken some precedence in the news, though even those have become so normalized and not-news to anyone. Currently, it seems cult of personality is where it's at and I'm pressing the snooze button on that, too.

The movie Knives Out did a murder mystery in a modern setting really well, though

I may give in and finally watch this. I've wanted to if only because Toni Collette is in it. I know nothing other than it's a mystery film, it wasn't an overhyped hollywood film, to my awareness, and people have recommended it to me. Hopefully I'm not disappointed

@savory I withdraw my opinion a bit I think. It's because I can't remember watching Jeremy Brett as SH, but he is probably more lookalike than Basil Rathbone. But I remember Rathbone playing the role well nevertheless.

I didn't know about that aspect yet. Yes, to put it short, although the producers might have said at some point that it was part of their intention as well, my problem was that it went from a detective series (which I wanted to see) to a series about a detective.

Paget's drawings of Sherlock vary in appearance, though going off the one you posted, I'd agree; Jeremy Brett having been more dainty I'd say, leaner, and possessing sharper facial features than Rathbone.

Hmm hadn't considered that perspective, I might agree with you. I wish I could watch it again but it's only streaming on apps I don't have :meh:
