Is there anyone with similar problem? I drink every day, I am on disability allowance so I have basically nothing to do all day...I have trouble reading longer texts, learning sth new due the debilitating effects of either schizophrenia or neuroleptics I take...I have no strenght to exercise or just go for a walk, no strenght to meet with ppl...
The booze costs money plus I am overweight already so if I drink like 4 beers to feel better it is 1000 kcal... :eh: ...A dietetician told me that in order to lose weight my calorie limit is 1600 ....so 600 kcal is left for 3 meals...
Apart from that it is ideal, takes time to drink, makes you drowsy so you can get some sleep during the day too...If you sleep you dont suffer...sometimes it soothes my anxieties and makes me merry but only sometimes...

I actually hate alcohol. The taste, what it does to my body. I'd normally abstain from it, but I started drinking straight vodka more recently. Because it's what was on hand and sometimes a person just needs to be completely inebriated while they are in hell. Plus I like to get it over and done with and not sip on something all day long.

I wish I had something else to "self-medicate" but I dont.
Yea I'm sure it's expensive, I didn't pay for mine, I just took what was out in the open in my mother's apartment.
Looked like it was for anyone. But no one expects me to touch it.

For some reason it doesn't make me sleep though, I wish it did.

Ha. I read this and thought 'merr I don't like alcohol coz of the calories' as I am flopped on a couch off my face surrounded by ashtrays filled with smoked joints, medication foils for valium, codeine, seroquel and lyrica. I wish I could buy all this from the bottle shop hahaha

I don't have any addiction to alcohol or anything, but I am drinking while on a bunch of prescribed meds, usually on an empty stomach, most days of the week. The rest of the time I smoke weed to feel even slightly functional. Several of my prescriptions are controlled substances and I plan on not taking them when I feel well enough to skip it, and save them up for my last few days so I can just relax and try to enjoy things. Honestly, not really sure what else could be done for someone like me since this is the most stable I've ever really been and I still can't take care of myself/feel purpose or happiness. May as well try to make myself somewhat comfortable :')

Today I had only 2 beers as my parents are visiting :(...I had to clean up the apartment too...:(
But the consumption of alcohol is not a lasting solution for me due to both money and the possibility of becoming addicted...The last thing I need is another ailment added to my psychiatric dossier...

I think it's time for u to go to AA meetings. Yea you're drinking excessively because u are depressed and there's lack of connection to other people and things to be involved in. I don't want u to get offended like I'm telling u what to do or assuming that this will help u. It can really help to just make new connections so that u are less likely to be self destructive. Are u able to drive or get to any meetings? Initially it's anxiety producing to go to the meetings but gradually u get comfortable and make friends, find support. It's very hard not to be an addict when u are cut off from other people and feel like a reject. You can do NA meetings too it's basically all about addiction regardless of the substance.

Feel your pain, alcohol is a natural depressant aswell so it's hard to break the cycle. As soon as I'm along I start drinking my escape from reality in some respects although I tend to binge generally on the weekends and get to feel like shit in the week!

Most cans / pints are only around 150cals plus your bodies basic metabolic rate should be burning around 1500-2000 Cals a day anyway so you've already got a head start on that excerciseing! Just eat little and often and attempt to do some exercise even if it's walking up and down the stairs. Good luck !

Yup. And it makes me furious when people say depression is always the fault of drinking if you drink a lot. Realise its a bit of a chicken or the egg thing but in some cases it really is the depression that happens first and the booze is a coping mechanism. When I first had ptsd I suffered horrifically and yet the Dr's didn't seem to care, generic anti-depressants... I was barely eating or sleeping and unable to function... After MONTHS like this found that booze deadened the symptoms enough to start functioning. So, would have been better if they'd actually give me the jellies as that would have helped more than this self-medication approach. These days whenever the depression/anxiety consumes me my automatic response is to drink, BUT, very important BUT that is after the mental health deteriorates and not what drives it. Which medics will patronise you about. I agree with you, you need sleep and sometimes knocking yourself out or deadening the pain is the only relief from suffering.

I'm not an alcoholic, or even a frequent drinker.

But the times I do drink, is often to remedy a feeling of stagnancy and depression. It feels good. I feel somewhat normal... Well, aside from the stumbling-over-backwards part. But I think you catch my drift.

It is one of those "I can make this night a little more bearable" solutions.
