I'm not sure if this has been asked before in the forum but I would like to ask how can I cut myself? Are there any advice or precautions I should take to prevent infection? Do I need to clean the blade with alcohol wipes before and after use? I bought a pen knife [shown below] (Japanese quality; could be better quality I guess ╮( ̄▽ ̄"")╭) for it so I'm not sure how often should I sharpen the blade for a easier cut? Hope to hear from you guys. Thanks! ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡

Edit: Please don't ask me why I'm going to self-harm or bully me for it. I'm trusting the members of this forum. ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚

I also SH, If you are just now starting i really really advise against it. (for me at least) no matter how deep you go it wont feel like enough. Its not worth it at all. But if you are going to please be careful, avoid major arteries, safest place that i would recommend is the top and outside of your thighs. NOT you inner thigh as your femoral artery is there. I really hope you change your mind but at least be safe please !!

I'd strongly advise against self harming this way. There are lower-risk methods of "scratching the itch", like chewing ice, scratching, or pinching.

If you are dead set on it then disinfecting both the knife and wound are important, but just don't do it.

Don't, as someone who has self harmed heavily in the past and occasionally does now. It's not worth it. But if you are going to out of free will then disinfect is very important both knife and wound, and then bandage wound and keep covered. But the best step is just don't do it.

Thank you all so much for the helpful advice! :)

Also, thanks for the concern but I am going to cut myself no matter what. My life is just too stressful for me. Tried to ctb a few times by jumping but backed out. I just can't take it anymore.

Additionally, how can I tell when it is time to sharpen my blade?

Please sterilize your blade and don't cut too deep because you might cause an infection which will lead to unnecessary stress.

Also if you need to cover up scars use a color corrector (orange for brown girls) and a good concealer or foundation I recommend dermablend it's soooo good.

I understand the temptation and how it feels like an effective coping strategy. I get a lot of release when I scratch myself.

That said, I hope you have other tools which can help as well as the self-harming, like cognitive defusion.

Hmmm… I'm Chinese so perhaps green or peach? I will look out for Dermablend. Are they usually sold at Sephora? Sorry, I usually buy my stuff from there but I have never heard of that brand before and I am not even sure if they are available in my country (Singapore). 😅
