  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

To preface, I am a new user, so I'm not entirely aware of total user trends and fluctuations. However, in my first few weeks of membership, I found it extremely notable that the user count index usually gauged online member to non member populations at around 400:2000 (give or take a few hundred) consistently. That's a ratio of 1:5, or a 400% difference. Impressive, really. Recently, I've noticed (maybe within the past week or two, not sure) that the relationship is significantly smaller, clocking in at roughly 200:500. It's not like the decline was gradual, either. One day, it was highly populated, and the next, it was not.

Is there a reason for this? Has the website been censored from a country/region of countries that contribute a large amount of members? Or perhaps the count was inaccurate? Weather/summer season?Whatever it is, the discrepancy is substantial. I'm still finding my way around, so have no idea—just an observation. Hopefully someone more informed can enlighten me.

Thanks

Honestly, no idea. Haven't noticed. But also, it had recently become summer in most countries/areas. Could be a factor. And I'm pretty sure we just lost a known SN source, so that's tanked a phew spirits.

There are some issues with censorship, but I only know about the UK one since that's where i am from, and I am still able to access it with and without VPN. So, it hasn't stopped me. I put my bet on the season changing.

If so, it's pretty impressive to see seasonal affective disorder and mental susceptibility to environment demonstrated in real time. Additionally, the 100% decrease of members vs 400% of non-members further differentiates and underlines the nature and severity of our illness (chronic ideation/ severe circumstantial and endogenous origin vs environmental/mild-moderate endogenous origin). Of course there are caveats and outliers, but the difference revealed in the general trend, if environmental in nature, would be suggestive of such a contrast.

I have motieced new members come in waves whenever the site gets mentioned in media. People show up either out of curoaity or looking for "quick and easy" methods. I think when those people find we are more about support and do not have methods that involve taking a bottle of OTC pills, they all leave.

When was the last time an article was posted discussing SaSu?

Well it could be a multitude of reasons; maybe some people dont have time, or well ctb, maybe people grew out of the site, or people are just simply to exhausted or tired to go on it (personally me). Not to mention the whole investigation in the UK and its banned in some other countries I forgot which ones though. We can only really speculate for now.

Oh also it's May now, so as you mentioned the seasons, weather etc could very well have a play.

Dead internet theory.

The majority of those visitors were bots, and the bot protection was tightened. Which caused the number to significantly drop.
