I'm trying rTMS at the moment. It has a 60/70 per cent efficacy for treatment resistant depression and I've just seen research that it helps BPD. It can help addiction too.

It takes till session 10 -15 to know if it is working for you. I feel quite hopeless at the moment... but wanted to mention it. It is horribly expensive, but I've been so ill for so long, it was next on my list. It is available in just one location in UK on the NHS.
Ps the side effects are beautifully minimal.

I'll be doing TMS shortly. Hoping it helps for both of us

I had my first rTMS session today. They did all sorts of measurement around my head. I got scared at first cause the technician said I might feel a bit of pain. Turns out I didn't feel any discomfort at all. I felt my head pulsing and the side of my face was twitching. the session lasted bout 5 min. I have to go everyday for the next 4 weeks.

Can you tell me what it is, or do I have to Google it?

This video by Luke Cutforth who is a YouTuber is really really good. He is watchable and what he says about depression is great - as in you can't cure it by drinking water etc and all the other crap people say to you. https://www.smarttms.co.uk/testimonials/depression-treatment-luke

I have researched the places - there is only one place on the NHS which I wouldn't qualify for, then a few private places. Smart TMS is all around the UK. It is not the cheapest - well they charge less for the first 15, then if it works for you, they double the price for the next 15!!! Clever that.

He was one of the lucky ones. I am feeling hopeless - yes a symptom- I am on session 5 today of rTMS. They say to give it till session 10 or 15 to see if it works.

It doesn't hurt that much, does it. I keep asking them to turn it up!

God. They didn't mention the relapse rate at the clinic. It is so expensive. I guess booster sessions if it helped would be worth it.
I feel so hopeless.

I've completed the first week of rTMS treatment. I do feel a slight improvement in my mood. no longer do I dwell on CTB as much anymore. Let's hope this continues to work. *cross my fingers"

If I survive the winter and obtain a COVID vaccine, I am going to find if I can obtain rTMS as a covered service. I've already failed decisively on ECT, but I can drive myself to and from rTMS appointments with no anesthesia being involved.

rTMS is a much more evasive treatment compared to ECT. you don't have to be put under and each session last about 5 min. The jury is still out on the effectiveness of rTMS. It's hit or miss depending on the individual.

The research says it is 60-70 per cent effective for Treatment Resistant Depression. I don't know efficacy for OCD etc off the top of my head. I'm not going to hope it will work for me - I could be in the 40 per cent. But it's worth trying.
