Btw ive been trying to think recently if my ritalin stopped working once i switched to the generic rubifen SR , Im starting to think my adverse effects arent from having high tolerance but from the generic meds, ive read that a small number of people/kids have had adverse effects/lack of effect to it, maybe cuz of some reaction to the pill's coating.
Whats the name of the pills you took?
First time i took ritalin it was 10mg, instant release, and it was better than almost anything ive experienced, i felt like theres no way id be able to handle 1 and a half pill.
Nowdays im dealing with something called adhd zombie effect, the effect gets really bad once i overdose
Also, the meds wont fully absorb if you took them with something acidic like some citrus fruit.
Also theres a comorbidity of adhd with Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome, and being a nightowl.
i dont feel the ritalin at mornings.
sleep deprivation is another thing that will make the meds less effective.
Maybe also some problems with nmda receptors or dopamine D4 receptor or d2, but im not too knowledgeable on that honestly...
It just sounds to me like the dose was WAY too high(unless you actually did take it with some orange/grapefruit juice or somthing).
the effect isnt getting stronger with a bigger dose, it just becomes different, or paradoxical
Also i think theres some gender differences in response to the medication, i forgot the difference.
Oh, also theres a thing about adhd and copper/zinc imbalance.
That might effect the response to the meds.
Copper+vitamin c+dopamine is needed to make norepinephrine through dopamine beta-hydroxylase, so perhaps a copper excess could prevent the medication from fixing hyperactivity or the feeling of excess physical energy
Also magnesium/calcium/vitamin d deficiency
im guessing other problems can play a role aswell, thyroid, kidneys, minerals imbalance, anemia, diet
And minerals pumps(thats the case for me), potassium rapidly shifting into the cells got me often drained untill i took potassium supplements, stimulants cause a decrease in potassium levels, and theres also some connection between potassium and dopamine.
I wish i could just pop a pill and not have to dig into this knowledge... but adhd is more than just low dopamine+norepinephrine.. theres even a difference in the balance of amino acids, its wicked
It makes more sense to try a different medication if one doesnt work though.
Im dealing with the something similar with my GP so i just asked to get a referral to a neurologist/psychiatrist
