As far as it seems to me she's not exactly happy to be alive but I understand.
No, he certainly does not.
She is still facing the same problems that lead her to attempt to end her life and now she has brain damage and a $125,000 hospital bill too.
I have nothing but contempt for pro-lifers and their smug, selfish attitudes.

i read this earlier today too. it made me irrationally angry and i had to do something to distract myself. the mindset the pro-lifer has is just so stupid. don't they feel any sort of guilt for it? and are we supposed to feel sorry for them when they mention not being able to have sex with their husband when they literally gave someone brain damage? who would care about that?

the whole perspective of the poster being a "hero" that "saved" her when they effectively made her life worse is just an example of how living will always be seen as the only option. but the coworker hanging herself in the workplace also adds some blame on her, since it would've been very easy to save her when they were walking in.

How in the world can anybody read that first paragraph and think of that as a good thing..? "Her life is still awful but now she is in incredible debt and has brain damage" What a hero...

Reading the linked post by the woman who attempted is heartbreaking. She basically was losing everything keeping her alive, and considering this was 2 years ago, I would not be surprised if she tried again since. Anti-mercy people really look at that and say "you have so much to live for".

It sucks, but if she didn't want to survive with brain damage, she should not have done it at work and involved innocent bystanders. Of course the OP would automatically run over to grab her and cut her down.

for you
(I looked at the original post and turns out I am blind) I wonder where she is now. Wouldn't surprise me if she attempted again shortly after :( Sounds like she had almost nothing going for her. I don't like reading all the worthless Reddit platitudes in the comments...

It's so vulgar to be in a world where we have to hide. This needless interloping is why I cannot allow myself to attempt until I'm in my own place and alone.

Because hope is delusional. These people really expect that "You have so much to live for" to help, as if that's easy enough to believe to keep going, these platitudes are so silly and frustrating to listen to. Easy to say that to someone from a screen and move on when nothings really, they preach empathy, understanding and solidarity when we know they won't lift so much as a finger to really help, why cant they accept that ehen someone's done, they are done and want no intervention to force them to keep living when they dont see a reason to be convinced its worth trying anymore.

God this really pisses me off. What is it with Pro-Lifers??? What is it with them to be so delusional about someone's suffering. They instantly think 'it's not all bad, that person doesn't deserve to die', then proceeds to talk about how their fucking interfering has caused someone permanent brain damage and 125,000 bucks in debt. Well done!!!

As if that's not gonna push someone over the edge again!!!

read a similar thread, don't remember the details, but it was also a story of someone attempting or wanting to attempt
i think it was like "i'm going to ctb in September"?

and then the most upvoted comment was something like "OP we should help you please don't do it's a temporary solution make sure you go to the doctor, stay with your family" dickheads

Translation for Dot:

The co-worker didn't cause anyone brain damage.

The person attempting used a method that carries a risk of brain damage if interrupted — which is exactly what happened.

If an unsuspecting person walks in on a suicide attempt, they're placed in an impossible situation: either do what they can to save the person, or walk away knowing they allowed someone to die. Once they've been made part of that attempt, their conscience will forever carry some responsibility for what happens next.

At the time, they wouldn't have known whether brain damage was going to occur, and they also likely wouldn't have known the full context behind the attempt or whether the person's life might have had the possibility of improvement.

I didn't see anyone trying to be a hero — and to be honest, knowing about the potential brain damage and medical costs, they might even be asking themselves whether or not they did the right thing. But all of their decisions had to be made in a matter of moments, in a fog of shock and trauma.

It's horrible how people who are determined to die have to sneak around — and how isolating the entire process of dying becomes. In my opinion, the reactions of both people in this situation are completely understandable.

Do whatever you want with your own life, but do not involve other people in your decisions without their consent, and then judge them for their reactions.

This is the reason I suffer and haven't attempted suicide. Fear that someone will interrupt my suicide and send me to the ER which will leave me with brain damage and other worse damage

If people would mind their own business I would be free already

I have to find an isolated spot where no human could interrupt me which is very difficult and expensive

yeah, as horrible as the situation is, that's the risk of trying to CTB in a place where you can be found and saved. i can't see the first reddit post, did she try to do it in the office? if that's so, it wasn't a very premeditated decision, and there was a very high possibility that it would go wrong. i feel very bad for both of them.

Honestly this is on the lady who attempted, if you do it in a place that a coworker is going to walk in on you, what're they meant to do? Carry your suicide with them for life? Nah, they're going to try to rescue you, that's the only way they could likely live with themselves, you don't involve others, you don't do it where you're going to be found. It sucks, I feel really bad for her, but this isn't on the bystander at all.
