OK, I gotta say something. I find it disturbing that we have points and scores and such on a goddam suicide forum. Don't we have enough concerns about this out there in the real world? People always eager for Likes on FaceBook and that sort of thing. Why can't we just rise above that here? Who the fuck seriously wants to be looking at scores and points when they are suicidal? It's actually a bit narcissistic.
I, personally, have had interactions with people in general chat who are real. I'm not saying the forums can't be real, but typically, it seems to me that we are giving people a whole lot of credit just for posting a LOT. They earn points or what the fuck ever just for posting? That is a bit fucked up, in my humble opinion. And often, those people don't even respond when you try to talk with them personally.
So, there. I stated my humble opinion.
Peace.
~~ Lolo
ps ~ If I start posting more in the forums, I do not give one shit about reaction scores or likes or being displayed on the main site as some kind of "influencer". It's just me being real. And I will always answer if you reach out personally.

I like the system. The virtual hugging is pretty nice or the love emoji. Gives me positive vibes. I feel that other people understand me and can relate.

In my opinion, the purpose of the reactions are for people to show their support to others. People have evidence that someone else has read their post and it may comfort them knowing they are not alone. I'm sorry if you've had a bad experience but I wasn't aware there even was a 'points' system on this site. Some people don't have the time to reply to all of the forums so they just use a reaction instead. Its people being kind. I guess everyone has their own opinions though.

I think @Lorraine is referring to the new point / upvote system? I can't see it in this thread, but I have it in one I'm posting in atm. Or do you hate emojis?

I'm neutral about this. It can have it's use in some kind of topics, in others I prefer the classic forum-like system (replies in chronogical order) and not a Reddit-like system (posts with the most votes at the top).

well they have something like that (i think) but its for questions not general posts. if you agree with the answer someone gave to the question i dont see the problem with upvoting it. saves from people repeating the same thing

Whatever you do, please avert your eyes from my hyperinflated reaction score ha ha;; My own post count to reaction score ratio is disgusting and I still do not understand why reactions earned for messages sent in general chat are included in the overall tally. I think that the reactions given to the posts we make in the forum should be the only ones that count.

The "Reddit Style" upvote system only seems to apply to those "Question" threads, in which the OP selects the best answer and the member who submitted that answer is awarded with a "Solution" point. The number of solutions appears beside the star icon underneath the post count and reaction scores. Personally, I hardly notice these scores because I focus my attention on the content of the post rather than the numbers attached to the user who wrote that post.

Aww..I was hoping to use my Reaction score on my resume some day, along with my Karma score on Reddit. Because that's the only achievement I ever amounted to in this life.

I really like the emoji reaction. I struggle socially even online so it was a good way to get involved without having to actually post anything but still show support to others.

This is a normal thing to do in my area. One of my country boy habits is to drink from the water hose, the newer the better. Love that new rubber/plasticky taste.

I think all forums can be cliquey at times and when certain people post they get more reactions than others. I've found that in any forum I've been. It's people seeking the validation they can't find in the real life world
