Random attachment to internet strangers?

Do you guys also randomly get attached to someone who spoke/replied to you in an internet forum once? Like they say one kind thing and suddenly I wish to be the center of their world and desperately long for their approval/pity.
Please tell me I'm not the only one-

Yes... Mostly here. Some have passed. Not that strong though but I miss them or if they don't post often I miss them.
It's not a love type of way or relationship but I have gotten attached. I think it was more when I first started here.
Now I'm not posting as much. Can't think of anything new to say I guess.

100%. I get attached to people who remind me of my Mum easily; I will literally go out of my way to try to talk to them even when they seem sick of me. It's unfortunately my poor mental health but it really helps me.

i personally don't associate with feeling of attachment - to anybody. i have struggled making connections my entire life, and wouldn't consider myself to have any real friendships at all.

although, there are people that i have spoken to here, who i feel genuine care for. but i do still understand that everybody leaves eventually, best not to linger on anyone IMO

i used to have this one friend i met off of a forum, i always wanted their approval, in the end they ended up backstabbing me really badly, i wish it ended well though

exactly! you're not crazy for attaching yourself to people. all anyone really wants is positive attention. it makes us feel happy and wanted, as long as it's genuine. that's one of the places attachments can come from in the end!

Yea I get that- for me it takes a month before I consider someone my friend (especially online). However I am speaking about ppl that randomly reply to you in a way that makes you feel like they care about you the way a parent would? Kinda like that??

Omg I relate so much on the obsessive part. To this day I still obsess over someone I haven't spoken to in like 2 years. For a while they became all I thought about.

well yes, i have spoken to a few older members, and i suppose it sort of felt like receiving advice from a grandparent. although, i try not to hold myself up on these sorts of thoughts because i find it damaging

OMG! I always feel so embarrassed when I do this, so glad i'm not the only one! I think for me I do this because i'm very isolated and have been for a while. I was home schooled all throughout high school so I don't have any friends. Pretty much alone all day and the only person who really talks to me on the regular is my mother. So every interaction I have on the internet I take to heart even the really small meaningless ones. I also feel so dumb thinking about a stranger and fantasising about being their friend when it literally means nothing to them lol

I'm really glad I came across this thread, now I know others experience this as well and I'm not losing my mind haha

I do this very often to people I meet tbh. I always try to do things they may like in hope to get some sort of positive response out of them.

I've also done some questionable "bad" things to get attention from the person I've become attached to.

It's just weird all around.
