I always read posts of people who tried partial hanging and failed, and they say that they felt the sensation that their head was "going to explode", or even that they end up having some sort of convulsions. Is that normal when trying this method, or are those signs of doing it wrong? I want to know what to expect if I try this method. I know that obviously is uncomfortable to feel pressure around your neck, but I wonder if doing it right will avoid the sensation of the exploding head and the convulsions, or is that just part of the process of passing out.

It means you blocked the jugular vein which drains blood from the head and not the carotid artery which does the opposite. Even though it's deadly, it's not how it should be done because it's painful. You should block the artery so that you lose consciousness out lack of oxygen. If you just keep increasing pressure gradually the vein is bound to close first so it's necessary to do it in one swift motion which is unfortunate. I wish it was possibly to just gradually increase pressure until fainting starts.

Well when I was experimenting with partial, I thought the rope had to be above the adam's apple and was getting the exploding head feeling, so yes one should not be feeling that which is a sign of not doing it properly. However when I position the rope a little bit below adam's apple, and if the pressure is right I feel like going to pass out. I never let my self have that feeling for more than couple of seconds since I am not going to ctb just yet. However people report waking up after passing out from partial, this is probably due to the convulsions which lead to the rope loosening afterwards. It is advised that the anchor is as high (closer to full) as possible, since this might reduce the chance of the convulsions having such an effect.
