Since hanging is the easiest way I have to CTB, I need to know some things (sorry if this thread was already made)

These are my questions:
Is hanging a lot painful?
Can hanging break the neck as it says?
Does hanging works by blocking the airway and blood flow to the brain?
What could be the physical damage if I survived?
What kind of rope would be the perfect option?

In some ways any chosen method of CBT is uncomfortable/painful, it takes up to 20s to lose consciousness
Drop hanging does break the neck which leads to crushed or severed spinal cord and then unconsciousness, partial and full suspension hanging don't do that - instead the ligature compresses the arteries
If you fail you end up with severe brain damage (due to lack of oxygen), but if done correctly (and not interrupted!) it's quite reliable and swift

Painful? Somewhat. You're gonna get choked hard. Don't breathe, don't swallow, let your throat get squished.

Broken neck? No.

Blood? Yes. Air? Only incidentally. You should be unconscious from the blood choke before you feel like you're drowning.

If you survive? Possible brain damage 😬

Rope? Idk, I think mine is 20mm. The thick kind you would use to tie up a boat, or maybe rock climb.

(FSH is probably my method. Partial would be nice but I'm not sure I can pull it off.)

I watched few hanging videos and I noticed it's not painless as I thought. Are the movements after the choke caused automatically by the body or is it the person trying to change his mind? I mean the hands had abnormal movement in them, the body shaking was caused automatically but I'm curious about the hand movement and most of the videos were 2-5 minutes long and there were movements still after 20 seconds. Are the movements caused automatically or by the person who is still conscious.

Thx.

I don't know what videos you've seen, it can be painful if not done correctly, and that's why the placement of the knot and ligature itself is important
I mean the person could change their mind as survival instincts kick in, but even after losing consciousness the body will trash around, reduced blood flow and lack of oxygen cause body spasms after all
If the ligature is placed in the wrong place on the neck and it constricts the airway instead of placing pressure on the arteries, that is painful as it lengthens the time before losing consciousness (up to a few minutes), maybe that's the case in the videos you've seen

You're probably talking about the decorticate rigidity and decerebrate rigidity stages. These come after the person has already passed out, and after the 'convulsive' stage. After someone passes out, first there are body convulsions which last for about 10–20 seconds. After that, there are these rigidity stages when the body tenses up involuntarily. These rigidity stages usually last for about 2 minutes before the body goes completely limp. They can be eerily similar to conscious movements. The arms may straighten downward, or may be bent and pulled close to the chest. Fingers are curled and each hand is clenched into a fist. The legs usually extend downward, but can also be pulled up. However, despite how it looks, the person is already unconscious and not aware of any of it. The times I mentioned are approximate. How long these stages last may vary greatly from case to case.

You can read more about the various stages and how long they last in this study: Agonal Sequences in Eight Filmed Hangings

You can read about the Decorticate Rigidity and Decerebrate Rigidity stages here, for example: Decorticate Posturing and Decerebrate Posturing

Message from someone who's tried to CTB by hanging before (Died for 2 mins - came back in a fucking miracle turn)
1 - Depending on how long you can go while holding your breath, you'll be conscious for 30 seconds to a minute, then you're out. In the seconds or minutes you're awake, it hurts really bad.
2 - Depending on the height, and strength of material, yes. My jump was only from about ~3 feet and I was only hanging a couple of inches off the ground and my neck didn't break. A broken neck typically comes from force over bone strength.
3 - Pretty much. You don't feel that though, I passed out beforehand due to loss of oxygen, so I didn't feel anything when it came to my head.
4 - Brain damage is the most common, but im my scenario, I suffered damage to my vocal cords and airway.
5 - I used a belt so I wouldn't know. Tying a noose with a rope is too complicated
Btw, hanging is one of the worst methods to CTB. This is because it's not 100% guaranteed because messing something up is super common. Also, another note, humans, after being dead for a certain amount of time, lose control of bladder and bowel functions, and this is especially common in hangings. If you don't plan on being found after a while, then I wouldn't recommend it (unless you wanna be found hanging above your own piss and shit)

May I ask what the exact damage to your vocal cords and airways was and if it was permanent or temporal damage?
