I've come across this article that talks about how important the quality of n must be for it to be painless.

Harvard anesthesiologist David Waisel told Mother Jones that even tiny contaminants in pentobarbital from a compounding pharmacy could "cause an inmate immense pain in his veins" which could be "compared to rubbing sandpaper on an open wound."

In April triple murderer Jose Villegas was executed using the current stock of pentobarbital. As it began to flow through his veins, he noted, "It does kind of burn," before gasping several times and falling silent

Has anyone tested the quality of a's n? How do we know for sure that it is pure enough to be painless?

Well, for one, it doesn't come from a compounding pharmacy like the stuff mentioned in the article. It's a premade veterinary solution. Also you're not going to be injecting it (I hope)

I saw on one of the forums that the solution contained other compounds such as ethyl(?) not sure exactly but another user said that it could contribute to burning. Does anyone know what a's n solution is really composed of, it's purity, etc?

I'm not sure what brand he uses, but here are the ingredients of a generic version I found. There's probably not much difference between the various brands, but I'm not sure:

Each mL contains: active ingredients: 390 mg pentobarbital sodium (barbituric acid derivative), 50 mg phenytoin sodium; inactive ingredients: 10% ethyl alcohol, 18% propylene glycol, 0.003688 mg rhodamine B, 2% benzyl alcohol (preservative), water for injection q.s. Sodium hydroxide and/or hydrochloric acid may be added to adjust pH.

I'm wondering if the other ingredients may cause complications mentioned above in the article.

I think even if its a bit painful, it would not last for long as you would fall asleep pretty quickly. Also, i imagine that this would still significantly less painful than all other methods.

This is the same case Idorus already posted a link about recently. Have a look what the other two witnesses said.
Sorry is there a link for what the other witnesses said?

Here's the full story. Including her unbearable suffering for two years from a brain tumor and the totally different statement of the other two witnesses:

These reports are to my view also bit dramatic. Journalism love to that, for the few cases that there was pain out of the 600 they do a good job with providing a exit for people who are ill.

One part goes over the the finance and part about protocol. This can all being viewed from one persons perspective how he or she sees it and than you get this.
