Punished for Suicide

In my country, it is illegal to attempt suicide. And so suicide attempts carry a prison sentence if discovered. This is just a background however...

I recently heard that in the state I'm living in, someone tried to kill themselves but I guess they were interrupted or something by some guys in the area. And then, these guys proceeded to beat up the person.

I'm not even sure how to feel about the entire situation because I believe humans are evil by nature, but it still disgusts me. And to hear the person narrating the event to me laughing... I hate life

It seems to me like these people stopped suicide not to help or give hope, but for purely sadist reasons because the logic is just off

Hmmm... The law is so outdated. But because the population is extremely religiously conservative (Islam and Christianity in roughly equal proportions), they accept it because according to them, life is a gift and suicide is rejecting God's gift and therefore a sin.

Some lawmaker proposed an amendment to the legislation, that would require therapy and 27 weeks of community service instead of a year's imprisonment if I remember correctly. Which still doesn't address the problem of punishing an individual for being born and wanting to leave.

It's just so incredibly disturbing how suicide is still illegal in some places, to wish to force others to suffer is an absolutely horrific thing. Those people literally have to pay the price just because other people decided to selfishly procreate, it's so insane that people still get punished like that for deciding to leave behind a life that they never even asked for in the first place.
