i'm one of the lucky ones who has a supportive father and siblings. my mother is emotionally abusive and we barely have a relationship but i have a wonderful father. however he has sick kid syndrome with me. i've been severally mentally ill almost my entire life and he's been through so many treatments with me that he refuses to loose me. trust me, i do not blame him, i've put him through so much and i can't even imagine what that has done to him. however, if i got in a car accident and was left with severe brain damage, he wouldn't want to keep me alive as a vegetable. yet when it comes to mental health care, he would put me in a residential facility for the rest of my life to keep my alive. he will never be able to let me go even though i've been through so much suffering and it's hard to cope with for me. i can't even imagine how hard it is for him to cope but it's just… idk… no one is ever willing to pull the plug for mental health

I think your father loves you so much as you are. I guess he has accepted that you suffer from mental illness and has maybe resigned himself to the idea that your illness is possibly untreatable. This often happens with parents of kids with physical conditions. No matter what, they won't let them go.

As for your mental illness, I'm not sure it's untreatable. It may be uncurable, but with the right treatment or therapy, you may be able to lead a bearable life.

i have been through talk therapy, several intensive outpatient programs including DBT and CBT group therapies and a five day a week at home program. I have been hospitalized 6 or 7 times, one hospitalization was four months long and they even tried shock therapy while I was there. I have been on every med in the book. I was in a residential facility for 8 months. I have been through every treatment. I don't think there is anything that will give me a bearable life at this point
