Today i had an appointment with my psychologist after a long time. We talked about a lot. Also that i recently visit a suicide forum regularly again. He warned me to be very cautious, because some people only want to have fun, only that pretend they are ill or persuade people into death. Do you think this is a real problem?

Your not allowed to encourage others to commit suicide here. As for people pretending, I don't imagine many are. This forum exists as an outlet for the depressed as well as the outright suicidal.

Which one of these 3?
er... all. some (but the minority of) people are here for fun in a malicious way, pretend they're ill and make people feel like there is no other option. It's happened before which is why I consistently say we need to advocate life as an option, not just death, because if someone's being manipulated they don't always come forward and all they probably really wanted the whole time was a listening ear

That goes for mostly anything on the internet these days. You'll have people that would pretend, some are malicious, and the rest are in the same boat as you. We are also not the only suicide forum online.

I ask myself who in the world goes in a suicide forum and pretends to be ill just to have some pitty. However i can imagine that there are sadists who find it cool when people suffer.

ASH is still around, but mostly filled with adbots and trolls. There's SuicideForum which is mostly pro-lifers and self-help gurus. Reddit of course. SuicideProject is the Quora for suicide blogging. There's subforums for suicide on mostly gore and shock value websites.

People who have fun pushing others to suicide are deeply mentally disturbed so I guess it's fair for them to be herein a twisted way

Caution is always advisable both online and in real life. I think your psychologist expressed a valid concern. Of course there are predators on this site. Just as there are predators at every corner of the internet. Luckily people here are quite vigilent and we also have mods that step in when something smells fishy.

Stay safe! Don't trust anyone with personal information.

Anyone can sign up to a forum and pretend to be something they are not, either out of nastiness, boredom, attention seeking and so forth, its how life is now, being cautious I thought was just part of common sense when it comes to using the internet, whether its a suicide forum or a just social media in general.

To not be cautious, is just daft.

I've literally never seen anyone, neither here on SS nor on any forum I've ever joined, persuade someone else to CtB.

This kind of 'slippery slope' drivel is just tabloid hysteria, frankly.

Someone has to be really sick to encourage people to ctb or pretend to be sick when they really aren't. But it is the internet, so you never really know. Just be cautious and remember we never know what others are truly experiencing.

Just like any social place, there will be people with self interested or malicious intentions.

Some quick words of advice for protecting yourself on this site-

1. Never do anything you don't feel comfortable doing. This applies to everything from goodbye threads, sharing info on methods, sharing info about yourself, talking to any user, ect.

2. If you talk to a user off the site, do not delete your communications with them. I sometimes get reports from users who say they were threatened or hurt by someone while talking off the site but I am left unable to act because there was no proof.

3. Please report any predatory behavior to the mods. We can't act if people aren't reporting it to us.

4. Read GoodPersonEffed's post on manipulation tactics. Be wary of people who use these tactics or people who make you feel off when you chat with them.

I told my therapist this also in the beginning when I joined, but also told her months later than this site helped me much more than the therapy sessions we had together. Never named the site.

I haven't either. I think this is one of those SS urban legends.

Countless people claim it happens, but I've never actually seen it myself.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen or hasn't happened, but if encouraging people to kill themselves was as widespread as people claim it to be on this forum, surely someone would be able to offer up at least one actual example. I think it's little more than a fear-mongering tactic.

The Karens think that saying "I wish you peace on your journey" and "whatever you decide to do, good luck" is telling people to kill themselves (since they are Karens).

That's my thought on it as well.

I think we're so used to being inundated in society with the "suicide is bad and must be stopped at all costs, in every case, no matter what" rhetoric that any response to the contrary sounds like encouragement, when really, it's just respecting people's autonomy to make their own choices.

That's a foreign concept to most people, it seems.

I think it has to be remembered that psychologist are people also.with their own biases. So stuff like this from them should be somewhat suspected, even if they should in theory know better. Plus this place is a good place to vent out many frustrations, even some that you can't say to a psychologist.

Yes there are people with ill intent here and I've heard some stories about that. So I ackmoeldegr that its a risk. But for the most part that's not a major issue with this site. Plus a lot of people seem to be scared of the pro-choice aspect of this forum. Might seem to raw for some people compared to other sites.

Also the way we react to suicide needs to changed and be less reactionary. Cause that doesn't solve much anything.

At least this place seems to give genuine answers for the most part.
Just had it with the usual replies in big social networks, you know, the

OH MAI GAAAAAAAWD!!1! You suicidal? Not on my watch!
Quick, call this suicide hotline with a track record of making you feel like s***.
Then, watch this inane video of a rare pupper, sadness just disappeaaaaars after the minute watching Fido licks its b*** clean.
And then, my DMs are open, doesn't matter if you feel completely alineated at the moment, I'm totally ghosting you the second we stop acting like nihilistic brats and start facing unpleasant realities that we cannot change.
Edit: thanks for the gold kind stranger!! :D

Most places dedicated to these topics make me feel even more invalidated, calling a spade a spade grounds and soothes me on a deep level most people will never get. Sure, it's dangerous to wallow in misery day in day out, but that's when you start planning stuff, for the better or worse.

This forum has both an area for the people who are going to disappear soonish, and a place where people are trying to heal and keep living.
I believe this complex, contradicting nature is part of being a real 3d person, the sterilized safe spaces are a mockery considering how bad days can get. Best of luck with this person, beware the Karens :pfff:

Huh I didn't know ash or newsgroups for that matter was still around. It's been like 7-8 years since I looked em up. Real old tech for that yeah?

I thought the original ash was no more even then. But several others popped up? With varying degrees of genuineness and spam bots. Seems an odd topic to spam but whatevers. Idk really exactly.

But I'm pretty sure I found one then with a chatzy chatroom for the group/forum whatever. 6-12 regulars in the room. Very nice genuine people. One dude once popped in the room chatted a bit. He pm'd me and was a major dick asking me about my method(s) then telling me I wasn't serious and if I was i should just hang myself now blah blah telling me he would hang himself.

I just ignored him and didn't say anything to anyone else about the pm's. Never saw him around again.

Here on SS not only can you not encourage but I don't even think you're allowed to suggest suicide.

My guess would be that this was probably more a problem in the earlier days of the internet. Or at least in the early days of when online suicide discussion became a thing. Between legal regulation and private regulation I think it's very rare for it to happen these days. But idk I could be wrong. Way wrong lol.

Except for that one guy, who was a dick. That I'm sure about lol

It's probably done in PMs rather than on threads.
