Which privacy setting exactly ? Do you mean you unchecked "Show your online status" or something else ?

i think you are still able to see yourself as online, but others dont if i get it right
I think it's working. On your profile it only shows when you joined whereas for many other people it also shows when they were last online. And I can't find your name in the list of members online. In that list it says 186 members are currently online but I counted the numbers of nicknames listed and it was only 141. You will always see your nickname in that list but as _Minsk said others don't see it.
