For those who don't know, Washington state in the US is experiencing severe flood conditions due to rain, then mountain run off, and top it off with more rain causing rivers to flood and levees to break. Close neighbors like Vancouver, Canada and Oregon state are also experiencing devastating floods. This post is in no way an attempt to lessen the burden, hurt, or loss many are finding through these circumstances, it's just my very tired, very sick brain wanting it's own peace.

Just heard about the first confirmed death by drowning in their car. Someone drove around a road closed sign, and it made me wonder if it was on purpose because of course that's where my brain goes. It makes me wonder how much easier it would be to CTB in circumstances like this. Roads are closed and flooded, rivers are at all time highs, fast currents with all kinds of debris and poison in the water from gas stations being flooded.

But of course we have more people out too, police, national guard, FEMA. If you drove past a road closed sign and someone saw they might call to have police check on you. I've driven over a couple bridges the last few days and the water is rushing barely a hands-width away from the bottom of the bridge. Fantasized about just jumping over the ledge, no way anyone could get out of their car fast enough to grab me and I'd be gone downriver in an instant. Not like they'd jump in after me either.

I wish things were different.

Drowning in their car? That's a painful and traumatic way to catch the bus, friend.

Jumping over the ledge? You don't need a flood for that. And the main appeal of jumping off a bridge is that you are knocked unconscious as you hit the water - if the water level is too high, you might not be unconscious, leading to a painful drowning end.

Pick your time and place - do not rush into action if you do not think you are fully ready

Drowning is a terrible way to go. I almost drowned twice as a kid, accidents since I can't swim. I'm now terrified of water, even showering is an ordeal for me.

You don't just risk yourself with this plan, you also risk the lives of anyone who tries to save you, whether they're successful or not.
