my buddy had his first inhaler puff just now. he puts up a huge fight for being held still and especially so for anything going near his mouth. when I got him he was 6 years old from a lady who has passed away from smoking basically, cancer brought on by. the fridge was yellow and you could see where the pictures used to be from the white(ish) rectangles on the yellow walls. so that's likely why he has asthma now.
he had bad teeth when I got him, bright red gums. couple teeth had to be pulled. there was an abscess under a molar that connected a hole from his mouth to his sinuses. my guess from what I had seen was a poor diet.
there was a flea infestation thanks to an object from my parents that an infected flea had given him worms. opening the pills and sprinkling it on the food meant he'd actually take the medicine so that worked. was 3 rounds of treatment till the worms cleared.
after that he had chronic respiratory infections about every 3 months so it was round after round of antibiotics. after a couple years it cleared up and now it's asthma.
he also had an enlarged heart and chronic kidney disease they caught early. it's been 2 years.
my other cat went and got her eyeball punctured so she's bind in it. doesn't seem to matter to her much unless she has someone spook her on her blind side.
had a chinchilla pass away a little over a year ago from a rare infection in the uterus. vet said it was pyometra. it's barely seen in non-breeding chinchillas so it wasn't caught in time. trying to see if the other two would room together resulted in a bite wound.
the eyeball, the chinchillas, the asthma, the food for the kidney disease. the last year has been expensive.
I love them to death and would do anything for them, but sometimes it's hard to find the money.
anyone else have stories?
