  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Protesting the conditions of an inhumane world

I've been on the internet for quite some time now, and this is something I've observed for many years, though it's only really become apparent to me in the past two or three years.

People like punching down at those below them. It makes them feel good. They know they it were to insult someone above them, there could be consequences. Like what happens to people who criticize the government, or the police, or whatnot.

But they can insult those below them all they want, because they know we can't do anything about it. We're in one of the lowest rungs of society and we are easy targets for bullies.

I used to be a frequent user on an incel forum. For those who don't know, incel is short for "involuntary celibate" - a term for someone who cannot find a romantic or sexual partner. During my time there, we were constantly targeted and harassed by a hate group on Reddit known as "IncelTears" with upwards of 300,000 members, and there were countless other groups and people who would pick on us and use "incel" as an insult or just a general term of abuse. When we're all broken people with shitty lives and even shittier social and/or economic situations, you can see why they target us.

It's not much different with groups like 26 or the "Stop Sanctioned Suicide" group on Facebook or whatnot. Up until a few weeks ago I was unaware of the existence of such groups, and even today I am only loosely aware of them and do not know much about them. However, it makes sense that they exist. Why are people suicidal? There are lots of reasons why one can be suicidal, but a lot of us are depressed, have shitty social or economic situations, live in abusive households, or have gone through loss or grief or another traumatic event. And I'm sure that's the case for many members of this site. This makes us easy targets for bullying, and it shows. These people don't care about us. They don't care about our well being. They just want us to suffer more.

I understand that losing someone to suicide is a painful and traumatic experience. However, I also respect the fact that life isn't for everyone, and if someone wants to be free from the cruelty of this world, then wanting them to be around just for my own gain is selfish. I will never encourage anyone to commit suicide, as that is morally wrong and illegal. But if someone wants to make an informed decision to end their own life, then I respect that.

I cannot imagine the pain of losing a child to suicide. I am terribly sorry for your loss. But this site is not the problem. Instead of trying to get the site taken down, why not address the source of the problems that lead to suicidal tendencies? Depression. Loneliness. Abuse. Poverty. Taking the site away won't fix anything, all it will do is take away one of the only safe spaces we have where we are like minded people who understand each other.

But this site is not the problem.

This, my friend, is what those people should understand once and for all!

Wise words.

Hey, I'm sorry your experiencing the vapid side of humanity.

min my experience when people take swipes at people who's skill, social, economic etc situation is below them it's because they hate themselves and don't know how to process it.

be thankful that despite having challenges you havent sunken to this level.

hope you have a good night :)

Yea, this ugly reality of our society is something that just fans the suicidal flames within me. I've both observed it happening and had it happen to myself personally. In bygone days, this behavior online was limited to obvious trolls and what most would agree were thoroughly disreputable individuals. As time went by, it became more and more commonplace and accepted. I've been alarmed at how much this trend has accelerated in recent years and the bullying become ever more vitriolic. Nowadays it's just something trendy and hip to do. Casually contribute to the destruction of another person's life for your vapid social and virtue signaling points.

I lost multiple family to Suicide this year including my mother last year. It hasn't made me mean towards people. I still treat others with respect. No these people just want to bully others.

Couldn't agree more. Times haven't changed one jot since bear baiting but it's done to humans instead now. This urge to bait and torment is in the majority of humans. They'd still be at the stage of human sacrifice without those with a functioning brain and empathy having moved things onto a more civilised level. A fair percentage keep pushing to go back to barbaric times though. I've noticed if you give them their invective and violence back they don't like it one bit though - strange that.

Yes, humans can be very cruel. We may act in a negative manner to those we see as being 'below us' as it gives us a feeling of superiority. Humans are very selfish and we do anything to raise our self esteem. With regards to SS, one must address what is causing someone to being suicidal in the first place rather than blaming this site. I also see a right to die as essential, some people simply want to be free from pain.

These normies have full mount and spiked knuckles, most of them pull their punches by a lot though.
