I haven't actually tried to kill myself yet. I have however practiced a BUNCH. I am around 6 ft 140 lbs male. Skinny neck. I started by feeling my carotid arteries. If I squeezed them,I got light headed. I did this to practice and remind myself that "this is the key to victory " (death) Eventually one time I got really mad at something and went in the bathroom. I looked in the mirror and said "I hate you" and squeezed them. I somehow triggered the vagus nerve. I basically let go and my vision went back to normal. Then 15 seconds later...I'm passing out. My parents found me. So just be careful not to pass out this way while in the noose.
Fast forward. I got rope and practiced. I use the standing method in the basement with a simple slip knot(2 loops),and a bow hitch knot for the beam on the ceiling(about 7 ft high). I basically pull over my hoodie for padding. If I lean into it just right,I get light headed and my body gets numb and weak. I almost passed out before and would've probably died.(the smart thing to do is hold the rope in one hand instead of tying it to the beam while practicing..I stopped doing that) I step off of a stool and stand on my toes.
I do feel suffocation however. How you ask? I don't know.Almost nobody mentions this with partial. I'm not blocking my windpipe either. But blocking the arteries makes me feel like I'm suffocating(logically the brain is being deprived of blood/oxygen so it kind of makes sense). But its not as bad of a suffocation as blocking the windpipe because I still can breathe. It just feels like I'm taking half breaths.
I can elaborate more if anyone would like. I generally don't give much info on hanging because I don't want to help someone kill themself. I will give basics but not everything. The main hanging megathread by "nolifenopain" has all of the main positions.
Also one thing to mention is the high risk of brain damage. Here is the copy and paste of my other post warning :
Keep in mind that hanging is risky. There's risk of Brain damage if you fail...most commonly if you're found before brain death. A lot of times it takes 8 to 20 min for the brain to die(if done right). After the 4 minute mark(average) your brain cells are said to die by the millions. If you're found at say,6 minutes, you could have major brain damage and possibly even be quadriplegic. Paralyzed 100%. Unless your family or power of attorney does you mercy, you're in for many possible years of AGONIZING HELL. There's a case of this In the UK. He couldn't move at all for like 2 years. Last I heard,he can now move his eyes..only his eyes to communicate,by mostly blinking. Please be careful. Ensure you're home for at least 30 min worse case from when you pass out. Preferably more than an hour
I do ask that you make sure you want to die. Please, please seek help if you haven't. Just don't rush into it unless you're sure.
I'm here if you need to talk at all!
