Do they have a moral obligation not to commit suicide?

They're the only people for whom I could see an argument.

I'd say anyone with dependents.

Arrange some life insurance first if you must

A friend of mine (a two-time mother) told me that she would catch the bus, if her kids wouldn't exist: so she's aware of the burden.

Single father of a teenager under 18 here. I think my kid would be better off. Both Emotionally and financially.

My dad killed himself when I was 8. It changed the entire course of my life for the worse, and look where I am now.

Here. Desperately trying to find a country to buy N.

I thought the guilt I felt for my parents was bad but cant even imagine what your situation is like. I'm sure your kid would be better with you at least until they can support themselves but that is not my choice and I understand the pain and urgency of wanting to die. I wish you and your child the best

I don't know if insurance will cover suicide … maybe it depends on the type of insurance you have.

Since I was 7 my father has tried to commit suicide 4 times, the most recent around 5 years ago. 3 times by paracetamol overdose with alcohol, which ended with his stomach being pumped. And the last time by hanging but the cable snapped. He told people what he as going to do beforehand so he was saved and it looks like they were more cries for help. He didn't get sectioned on any of those occasions, just sent home from the hospital with some phone numbers for help with alcohol abuse. He's never tried to seek help.

I'm not sure how different my life would be if any of his attempts were successful. I do know he caused me a lot of pain and worry over the years. I have trust issues, depression, anxiety, abandonment issues, and I'm here so...
