It's a damn shame. First that they have to fight for benefits at all. I remember Jon Stewart leveraging his celebrity to try to get Congress to do the right thing with the funding. And then that this man had to do this. I wish that life sat easier on the people who help others.

It is very sad indeed. People should not have to fight tooth and nail just to get support when they need it. I think what should happen is the people who wish to live and wish to get help are able to receive it (reasonably speaking). Yes there should be some vetting but it shouldn't be some arduous jumping through hoops, bureaucratic bullshit, and complex process before they are approved or qualify for it.

Also, I could not go without saying this, but ugh stupid obligatory suicide prevention number and text number. :meh:

It says in the article that 9 officers at the same precinct ctb-ed last year. That's A LOT. I have a huge amount of respect for people in uniform, they put their lives on the line for the rest of us.

I saw Jon Stewart's speech, it was very moving.
