I personally use double-edged razor blades, they cut to styro like butter. The fact that you're hesitating so much and even asking for advice means something, give it a bit more thought. Stay safe <3
I looked into it a bit, my craft blade apparently isint sharp at all compared to razor blades, so I'm probably going to get some of those. Thank you for worrying, and I want to say that for everyone warning me. I appreciate it. I've just had the visceral need to hit Styros, even if it's just once. I've gotten close before, but I can never get the amount of pressure and sharpness of blade to actually do it.
The deeper it is, the higher chance it is you'll get an infection and if it gets infected, it'll either cost money for medical bills or you'll die a painfully long death due to sepsis. In addition to that, there will come a day that you'll reach the limits of how far you can cut and it'll still not be enough.
I think I should be able to handle myself when it comes to going deeper. I can control it. I'll never go deep enough to cause permanent nerve damage, and I'll always do it in a safe location on my body. I always stay extremely careful to where I do it, when I do it. (That and if I do ever need stitches, which I won't because I won't go too deep, my healthcare is free)
I'm covered in scars, cutting sucks as a coping strategy, my deepest cuts are on my legs, where there's more flesh to cut into. So far, I've managed to avoid hitting veins, arteries, but I've had cuts 5mm - 10mm deep, they need quite a few stitches.
Unfortunately it's my only coping strategy that's worked in the past few months for me. I know it sucks, but I cannot really stop anymore, i fear I've become addicted in a way to it. My deepest sympathies for you, when it comes to having needed stitches before. But I assure you, I do not plan on going deeper than Styros.
