Euthanasia takes a long time for it to be approved. You also need to prove to doctors that you're suffering without there being any solution. Usually they'll only approve you if you have some sort of terminal disease that is impossible to live with.

Yup, recently a friend (in their 40s) was euthanized in the Netherlands. It has taken them many, many years to go through the system. It's a rigorous process and not often approved.
