Well, what do you hate about it?
There is some truth to that sentiment expressed in that statement... though it might be a superficial phrase just thrown at you.
As someone often been described as a punk and or weirdo and or intellectual (lol yeah...) ... I tend to share some part of this vague perspective.
Most people are just fucking dumb, and I am no exception, but that is just true. Ignorance, discrimination, simple-minded explanations for everything...blah, of course people who are not able or willing to fit into mainstream culture (doesnt actually matter which country or century you pick...)... are more likely to be driven to contemplate suicide - and thence commit it. Is that on purpose...? Probably not. No great masterplan behind it. Just cause and effect.
That though... does not mean that every person who has tried or is thinking about it or has done it, is a genius. Suicide is a democratic phenomen, and each case must be judged individually, but I do wanna present to you the following thesis: if you are a more empathic person, someone more reflected than the average hillbilly voting for "concentrations camps "on the mexican border - then, yeah, it 's kind of a fight. If you decide to end yourself, it 's fine, but yeah, it will not make the world a better place most likely, rather the contrary.
And of course, your friend might not have looked at it like this at all and just wants to light some fighting spirit inside you... but nevertheless, maybe the world has enough dipshits in it already, maybe its a bit better with you - not checking out forever.
Maybe it would be a win for the Trumps and twats of this world, if you ended your existence.
Maybe.
Take care.
