it's a supposed to be pretty special birthday for me, it's in a little more than a month. usually i feel really happy on my birthdays but now it's the opposite. i'm dreading it because it only shows how i'm constantly running out of time to get my life together. i don't even deserve to be celebrated anyway, because i don't contribute anything to society.

I know exactly how you feel. For me, birthdays aren't an occasion for celebration, they're an occasion for mourning. I'll turn 26 in July, and I wish that none of my family would remember and remind me.

The problem is not your birthday. It's a reality that you feel unimportant in society.

So you all create these threads to feel important, telling us it's your birthday!

Graduation, a job, a promotion, a pay raise, a wedding, or the birth of a child are all worthy of their own festivities that have nothing to do with your birthday. We don't wait for our birthdays to commemorate any of these milestones.

Only celebrate your age on your birthday; nothing else. I hope you have a wonderful birthday next month!

Your feelings are understandable, I personally don't like birthdays as it's a reminder that I'm still trapped here and have suffered for yet another year. The thought of ageing is horrific to me.

I'm sorry. You are just rude. You have NO RIGHT to invalidate someone's thoughts and how they are feeling right now. People with anxiety dread events way into the future. The things you reference like job, promotions etc are difficult to comprehend when you are depressed. They are celebrated with others. And they are celebrated in the moment but holidays like thanksgiving and birthdays involve people closest to you and its a burden to bear.
