There's quite a few of us seemingly having to explore this to facilitate necessary purchases off the DW. If anyone has such navigated 'getting Monero' we would all be appreciative of a brief explanation of the steps you took (or links to video's you watched). I'm in the UK so any Brits out there it would be great OR just applicable worldwide.

And re the DW does anyone recommend any other Markets other than Archetyp?

What's wrong with Archetyp?

Nothing. And indeed I've found 'stuff' on there relevant to her. I was just looking at options.
Ah okay. Apologies if I sounded confrontational, I was genuinely curious as I had never used dnm before.

you can do atomic swaps between bitcoin and monero without needing to interact with an exchange directly, there should be guides on how to do it available, no idea how the liquidity between the two is looking like as i haven't used it in a while. unstoppableswap seems to be the easiest way to do this but can't vouch for it

Yes but I'm adding extra layers of complexity doing that. I already have layers as Monero is nye on impossible to just buy in the UK seemingly? So I have to buy LTC and exchange for Monero. I'm just trying to keep it simple (ish).

yeah exchanges delisted it for uk/eu customers after a crack down on privacy cryptocurrencies, so it's a little bit more involved than just directly purchasing from an exchange nowadays. you could also do as you're saying and use a bog standard swap service if the wallet you're using has integration

I was under the impression I could exchange bitcoin for monero in Kraken but it turns out I can't. So now I exchanged bitcoin to ltc, then ltc to monero.

I agree. I wouldn't have purchased the bitcoin had I known I couldn't exchange it for monero. I only realised after buying the bitcoin 🙄
Apparently, in Cakewallet the process is simpler. We shall see 🤔

https://www.privacytools.io/crypto has a good list of no-KYC exchanges. KYC might not be a problem if you just transfer the funds to another address that the exchange does not know about from your end.
That's a fair bit out of date. Case in point, Local Monero isn't even in existence any more.

I pretty much know the answer but I thought I'd ask just in case. Anyone aware of a British Exchange where Monero (XMR) can be bought with fiat GBP? It'll almost certainly be no but I'm asking anyway to save me a step.

It's easier in Cakewallet, but the transfer took ages. I thought it was instantaneous. Are you looking into dnm too?
Yes, it's one of the downsides of DFX.swiss (one of the providers of Cake Wallet) and the SEPA (non-instant) bank transfers, which usually take 2-3 working days to be completed. Another drawback is that, even though it has low KYC (with limits; only an email is needed for registration), it still requires it. Even so, it remains, in my opinion and knowledge, the most reliable, accessible and easiest way to buy XMR, especially now that other non-KYC and P2P exchanges like Local Monero have shut down and Retoswap currently has few offers available in general―and even fewer with no security deposit required.

I found Coinbase > Cakewallet > Monero GUI > where ever

The way to go easiest.
