Just write down a feeling, or memory or random thought that makes you feel that fading childlike happiness again, it doesnt have to be real.

For me, it was when i was 7, my dad had just gotten Doom on the SNES. On a school night, around 2am, he woke me up, "hey buddy, wanna play doom with me?" deep down i knew it scared him to play alone, so i was more than happy to get one-on-one attention (i had 4 older brothers, my parents struggled to evenly divide the attention)

i remember going into the living room, blanket around me, lights are off, and me and my dad on the couch playing Doom, those iconic sound effects playing quietly, as to not wake anyone else up. We both stayed up until 6am when school and work started, so he turned the console off and said "hey buddy, dont tell mom i kept you up, and tonight well finish the game, okay?" with a big sleepy grin on his face. We never finished the game, nor did we ever have such a cozy little moment like that ever again.

THAT was the last time i can truly recall pure, unobligated joy. No rent to pay, no job to go to, no medical issues, no legal battles, just me and my dad, geeking out over an old game together.

I remember how big of a deal that game was when it came out, everyone was playing it, i still play it to this day. I got the invincibility cheat code "IDDQD" tattoo'd on my arm.

I remember playing Super Mario Galaxy 2 before school, trying to get as many stars as I could before it was time to head out. Nothing quite like waking up early and crossing as much of the galaxy as you can before you have to slip your backpack on.

rainy days in elementary school. no work, just watching tv and playing with friends. im glad i had a good childhood and i'm grateful for that, but god is it depressing to know that i'll never see those friends again...i can't remember their names or their faces it's all just a blur now.

Occasionally I go on Google maps, set the time back to 2009 and walk around my hometown. Things were so much more peaceful back then, the colors were more vibrant. Who knew that I would only grow up just to try to find a way to ctb

Interesting that video games are a common theme here, but it's true for me too. Playing a new Zelda game was so exciting for me back then. It was kind of social too, since we'd talk about it with friends. I remember playing "Mario Party" and other multiplayer games with friends during sleepovers, and we had a blast. Or we'd play outside, and swim, and drink root beer. Summer was a lot of fun when I was a kid. I miss that feeling.

I played a lot with Lego as a kid too. Between the three of us, my brothers and I had a big collection. We'd play for hours, just completely absorbed in it, and we invented these crazy elaborate histories and characters. I feel pretty nostalgic now looking at old Lego sets. Good times.

I will continue the video game theme. I remember going to my friend's house and playing the Atari 2600. I also recall going to Showbiz Pizza and playing arcade games during the Golden Age of Video Games.
