So... I wanted to share what medication I got prescribed today. This is the first time for me, I've never taken anything else before for mental health.

Im in Spain so I'm going to say the main chemical in the medication prescribed instead of the name of the medication since it can be different in your country.

I got: OLANZAPINE, SERTRALINE and LORAZEPAM. I googled some information about them. But I wanted to know your opinion about these medication. Do any of you have experience with them? Can you tell me anything you might know about it?

If I start taking them how hard will it be to stop if I'll want to? Do you know what side effects they can have?

And also I'm getting scared, because what if I'll want to stop taking them, how should I tell it to my doctor, will she be ok with my decision? This treatment was initiated by me, nobody is forcing me to get medical help. But still I told her a lot about my problems, will she be ok if I suddenly say that I would like to stop doing this?

Love,
—Alec.

Did you have any side effects? You said "you have taken" does it mean you stopped? Was it easy to stop? Did your doctor object to you stopping? I'm sorry if it's too personal, you don't have to answer of course, I'm just trying to figure out if I want to start taking them. Thank you.

No side effects of which I am aware. I honestly got it to use as an AE for SN and it actually worked. Give it a few weeks.

One thing I noticed was that my senses returned to normal. Like music sounds clearer, food tastes more like it should, etc.
"AE"? As in anti emetic? I didn't know it works that way?
Yes. Anti-emetic for SN. Only reason I got it.

I am on Sertraline and Mirtazapine.
Sertraline is fine, Lorazepam is a Benzodiazepine and is very addictive after you have taken it for 2 weeks or earlier, but is strong against Anxiety.

I was taking olanzapine and the first thing I noticed was massive weight gain and feeling a lot more emotional/suicidal.
stopped taking it after 2 months and started feeling even worse so I'm not sure what advice to give you :/

I have taken sertraline for depression and olanzapine for bipolar disorder. Sertraline didn't do anything to me, at least that I could notice, while olanzapine helped my mood swings but it caused also massive weight gain and sedation as side effects.
I tried to taper off olanzapine (without telling my doctor, big mistake) because I wasn't happy about the weight gain and I had a psychotic break down.

Maybe I didn't follow, may I ask what the diagnosis was, if you are willing to share?

I wasn't aware it worked as antiemetic, but I guess lucky me since SN is my choice as well. Thank you for sharing! Do you mind if I ask, did it make you gain any weight? For how long have you've been taking it and if you stopped already, if you did was it hard to stop?

I'm on olanzapine but I'm trying to get off it. I feel like it made me very forgetful but it did stop me hearing strange things. Sertraline made me feel on edge but I was on the max dose, also made it harder to Jack off if that's a turn off for you. I hope you have a good experience though.

Thank you for letting me know! I appreciate it. I'm really scared to start taking them and realize I can't stop. Did you stop?❤️

Weight gain is one of my biggest fears. Thank you for sharing!

But did you eventually stop? What was your doctors reaction about you stopping it? Did you have to come and see the doctor again to prove you are "ok"?

Weight gain is my nightmare. That's one of the reasons I'm terrified to start taking it. I'm sorry you had to go through that, but thank you for sharing!

Did you fully stop taking it in the end? What was your doctors reaction at you stopping it? Did you have to comment that you stopped and did you have to keep seeing the doctor to convince them you are "ok"?

I did gain weight. Everything tasted so good and I binged on junk. Once I got a handle on my appetite I stabilized. It was about 30lbs. I've been taking it since October.

I didn't mention the diagnosis, because my doctor didn't give me any. She just told me what medication she is giving me and what it should help with. And gave me another appointment in a month from now to come back and comment about how I feel and what effects the medication has. I didn't ask about diagnosis myself, I probably should have but I was nervous and honestly wasn't thinking straight.❤️

Did you have to tell your doctor that you want to stop? Or did you just stop coming to the doctors and trying to stop taking it? I'm trying to guess what my doc's reaction will be if I'll decide to stop and how should I comment it to her. Honestly all these symptoms sound horrible just like my current state. And sexual problems is another of big concerns for me. What do you mean by "if it turns you off" as in thinking about being on medication makes you feel unmotivated being sexual or simply taking medication reduces sexual libido?❤️

Thank you for telling me. I'm thinking to try it for maybe a week or two and see how it makes me feel, if I don't like it or side effects are too big I'll have to stop immediately. I hope it was turn into addiction that's too strong. Honestly when I started this I didn't realize I'll be so worried about taking medication.

No side effects. I stopped with the lorazepam to avoid addiction. Sertraline was great until it stopped working and I moved to another drug.

I've taken all of these at some point in the past, for depression and anxiety symptoms.

Sertraline - helped me a lot with social anxiety and low mood for first couple of months that I was on it. This effect wore off for me after a few months though. Only side effect I had was sexual dysfunction.

Olanzapine - helped with intrusive thoughts and obsessive thoughts I was having about hurting myself. Didn't like the side effects so I came off it. Side effects I had were weight gain, struggled to concentrate, memory problems and apathy.

Lorazepam - helped me with short term anxiety and obsessive thoughts. You shouldn't take this consistently you can get addicted. Caused me memory problems and if I took too much I would blackout. Don't take it with alcohol as blackout is more likely. They stopped prescribing it me because I was taking too many.

These medications seem to have different effects in different people, so I wouldn't get too focused on any particular example of them being bad or good.

I do find it a little odd that they prescribed all 3 of them at once if it's the first time you've been on anything, but I don't really know your situation.

No worries, I don't mind talking about it. I stopped taking olanzapine in the end, but I'm not off meds, I just switched to another antipsychotic called quetiapine instead. My doctor wasn't pleased that I stopped without telling him, which is understandable considering I had a psychotic break as a result. He was a private psychiatrist, I didn't have to see him if I didn't want to. I'm trying to understand what your situation is, it sounds like you are worried about side effects, but maybe also about being sectioned in some form? From my experience doctors can't force you to see them unless you are sectioned.

Can this be prescribed by a GP in the UK?
A psychiatrist can recommend that a GP prescribe it you (which they almost always will), it's typically called Zyprexa.

I've been on a couple of antipsychotics for just under 3 years, not olanzapine. Got rid of schizophrenia so good in that respect. Had some weight gain, lethargy, etc. I've recently stopped taking them and felt a little anxious/uneasy at times but nothing more and no return of symptoms as yet.
Be careful with lorazepam (being a benzo) it's highly addictive and has bad withdrawals. Great for short term/temporary anxiety relief but not regular use.

I take 200mg of Sertraline daily. It worked for me in the sense that it kinda made me feel numb to a lot of things, I take in combination with other drugs though as well. It killed my sex drive, like really killed it off, so if you're sexually active that might be an issue for you, but everyone is different and that might not impact you at all.

Thank you for letting me know. I'm thinking to give it a try but too keep it very low dose and take it rarely to avoid addiction. Addiction is something I'm afraid of too. And I think I'll try Sertralin for a few days and see what it does, if I notice at least some thing bad I'll stop.❤️

Love,

It takes a minimum of two weeks of continuous use to get any effect and up to over a month to get the full effect of antidepressants, I'm afraid a few days of sertraline won't really do anything

Thank you SO MUCH! For this detailed description! I don't know if it's weird or not that they prescribed them together to me when it's the first time I'm gonna take any medication for mental health at all, but that's what it is. The doc didn't tell me any diagnosis so I don't know.

That being said, I think they prescribed them to me for the exact reasons you described in why you were taking them. I think I have the exact safe stuff to treat with these medications, so thank you much for sharing! Brought me a bit of clarity❤️

I'm still very afraid to take them but I think I will try, at least for a few days and see what happens. I'm sexually active and it's very important to me, so sexual dysfunction would definitely be a reason for me to stop taking it. But like you said, it's different for everybody so I'm gonna try a few days first and see, again thank you so much!❤️❤️❤️

olanzipine is something I have desperately wanted to try, although my doctor won't prescribe it. I've tried lorazepan, but honestly I needed to up the dose a lot because I hardly felt the effects

Listen to this man. If you can avoid taking the benzo, don't take it.

How are you supposed to take the lorazepam?
